I mean...I, personally, would hate it I lived in a rural area and a massive data center were built nearby. I get it.

The strain on the power grid is a real concern but standalone data centers are not a new thing.

I don't love the idea of destroying land just for AI needs, especially considering how I oppose AI just from a moral perspective.

AI isn't new either, MYCIN was created in the 1970s.

But I also understand why certain areas are attractive for these centers. I work in O&G and they see these centers as massive customers, not just for energy, but also for potential water re-use.

Hopefully we can deliver the power that is necessary for these data centers that will be used to help for "good" projects.

cool

My point is that I understand the NIMBY attitude. I understand the need for refineries or an interstate. I also don't want to live next to one.

I hope there is a way for us to tax the revenue generated by these data centers.

You're serious about this? The state and local government bent the frick over for Meta. You will see next to nothing in the way of tax revenue thanks to the "deal" they cut, and the promised influx of jobs has been well oversold.

Wasn't directed to you but others who might be reading this thread and have seen the propaganda being spread about evil AI.

Employment taxes, state income taxes, payroll taxes, gas taxes, lodging and short term rental taxes, sales taxes for unqualified equipment and indirect costs…..

AI certainly has useful functions.

But if you use AI to write papers, emails, create any content whatsoever, I'm at the point that we should be able to publicly shame you.

Yes, that is the only use of AI.

Shitty lawyers across the country are already getting held accountable. California is leading the charge.

We even have judges that have used the shite to issue opinions.

No I didn’t, which is neither here nor there for the question I asked. So I’ll ask it again, is what I’ve said above untrue?

True but you contradicted yourself and showed your arse when you typed:

I am with you on using it for writing papers and emails but Autonomous vehicle software is created through ML which is a subset of AI.

So should we shame anyone who uses AI to create content?

These data centers often have their own power generators. Not sure how "in the grid" these centers are.
