Comic book geeks (adult males)

These guys all talk the same way. In a weird voice that seems to be on feminine side. What makes them feel the need to sound like this and at what point in their geek training does the voice change. My son wanted some comic books, we went to a little store. It was weird. My first thought was I hope my boy doesn't get into comics too much.
