Barely 1% of the population has actually felt the impact of that war though. More people die by suicide every year in the United States than have been killed in the War on Terror. I'm more likely to be in a car accident than I am to meet a widow of a serviceman randomly on the street.

I'm not saying he's correct, I'm just saying that the War on Terror is absolutely nothing like what this nation experienced in World War II. In the latter conflict, you felt the war every day of your life. In the current conflict, you don't even notice that it's happening.

Nope, not compared to that, we didn't.

Are we attempting to compare the day to day between the two? If so, that's kind of weird.

The saddest part of Pearl Harbor are the stories of rescuers being able to hear sailors trapped in the ships banging on pipes and bulkheads and not being able to reach them. After a few days the banging stopped.

That’s what I think about when I look at those pics.

You're trying to compare Iraq to World War II?

I said it the other day, and I will say it again.

A global war is a different ballgame

i sometimes think this as well, but then I think that if we ever see an unprovoked attack like this again it may galvanize the nation

One thing about it. They may have hit us with a sneak attack.

....but they are still looking up and diving under desks every time they hear a four engine airplane.

If you have never been to the National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center to see the Enola Gay. I highly recommend it. The Enola Gay and the SR-71 Blackbird make the trip worth it if you don't see anything else.

We didn't start the fight.

But we damn sure finished it.

And that's certainly something to be acknowledged, but not really something to be celebrated. Everything about that war was tragic. Our entire planet was full of evil and death for an entire generation.

I seriously doubt the America of today possesses the conviction or strength to fight a war.

It seems we have forgotten the meaning of the word sacrifice on every level of society.

Unfortunately I think we'll see that tested in my lifetime.

Other than avenging an atrocity and saving hundreds of thousands of Allied (and Japanese!) lives, think about who would have the upper hand in a world where no nukes have been used and the U.S. and Europe are greatly weakened. Soviet rule of the eastern hemisphere.

He’s a liberal. Notice how every liberal on this board has stupid takes on every topic? They can’t help it.
