probably to get it on film/tape to make it sound like they're still being threatened

Well, right before they unloaded on him he had at least 5 cops pointing guns at him, one standing on the hood of his car, all screaming at him.

Most people are not going to act rationally there as the cops are not acting rationally.

I 100% believe he thought if he opened the door of his car they would shoot him.

The fact they shot him while he sat in a locked car would seem to prove his fears were warranted.

Sounds like he was freaking out before cops arrived. He told the 911 operator he was afraid and wouldn't leave the car.

Very bizarre behavior. A rockhound afraid to exit his car? Something isn't right.

I think he was mental before the arrive, but they exacerbated his fear reaction.

Right. They could have just asked him to throw his knives out the window. Take them to assure he wasn't going to do any harm then assign a deputy to sit out there until he settles down.

In a situation like that, it seems like when more deputies arrive that just makes the situation more tense.

He might have not been thinking clearly, but he was willing to assure them he was of no danger until they got aggressive towards him.

This whole situation sucks, what if the cops had bought into his "im so scared" narrative, gotten complacent, and the guy comes out guns blazing.

I dont know, cops can be complete dicks but if I can sort of understand why they'd be nervous.

The problem could have been solved by leaving him some water and a snickers bar and walking away.

foreigner, from a country where cops don't carry guns, being surrounded by cops pointing guns at him, after seeing on the news how US cops are Rambo wannabes, may be extremely fearful for his life and react oddly.

The cops had no reason to shoot him but he was about as big of a pussy or dumb frick as you could be in that situation. If your car is wrecked get out and sit on the side of the road and play with your phone or smoke a cig while you wait, leave your knives and mallets in your trunk. Most would agree that is common sense.

Maybe he was on edibles, maybe he was just terrified thinking cops drive around shooting people wily nily because he watched to much CNN.

It is a good snapshot of our society right now. The media and politicians have idiots so afraid of cops they are scared to get out of their vehicle. Cops are so afraid of being shot by meth heads they are scared to talk it out anymore.

And then people end up dead. Wasn't it just a few days ago some yahoos in Georgia ambushed and killed two cops?

Also, blurting out the English variation of Allahu Akbar when cops are on edge and you told them you have knives on you is not very bright.

Right, they solved a non-problem by killing this dude. It's absurd.

From the article;

A supervisor at the Colorado State Patrol, at one point, radioed in that Glass hadn’t committed any crimes.

“Can you ask Clear Creek what their plan is? If there is no crime and he’s not suicidal or homicidal or a great danger, then there’s no reason to contact him,” a CSP sergeant says over the radio. “Is there a medical issue we’re not aware of?”

“No,” a patrol trooper responded back.

There are three logical explanations for escalating a benign situation to murder:

1. Individual blood lust;
2. Institutional culture of promoting killing; or
3. Mental retardation.
you left off cowardice.

retardation wouldn't be a problem. It's that they're dumb but think they're all powerful and smart.

I’m not sure any of you actually watched the body cam footage. LINK

The guy in the car acted like a retard for the better part of an hour. Constantly unable to follow simple commands or just open the car door and get out. But the guy kept asking for help. The cops communicated with him calmly and politely for that hour. In a situation like this, the cops can’t just leave him. Once the cops communicated to him that they were going to break the window and attempt to physically remove him from the vehicle, he grabs the knife and starts swinging it around wildly. The entirety of the video makes it seems like this guy was intent on suicide by cop.

That being said, the argument could still be made that it was a bad shoot. It appears that the shots were fired when he reached out a rear window (with the knife) that had been broken with an officer a trying to approach. But the officers had such the upper hand of positioning in the situation that it seems like they should never have needed to fire a Lethal series of rounds.
