Nitrous Mafia is the opposite of hippies, they just exploit hippies 
One of those guys pulled a knife on a group of us at Phish - Miami New Years. Thought someone reached into his pocket and took the GIANT wad of 20's. Had to be 5k at least in cash.
He found it in his other pocket shortly after pulling a knife and business resumed immediately. No apologies.

I lived in a pseudo commune from ages 7-12/13
a book was written about it, Days of Fire and Glory was Charismatic Ultra conservative Jeus Freak Hippie Commune in the middle of a city.

Hippies are the reason for my disdain of men wearing sandals to this day.

My parents had hippie friends who would occasionally stay with us on the way through town. I think all of them were burned out and had a screw loose.
There's still a few around, not many though. Lot of pretenders, kids of means who act like hippies.

Sort of. Only big issue with the communes is they would often send a couple to the town or city ever day to beg or steal.
