Collision Avoidance Systems in vehicles, wonky?

For those who have vehicles equipped with them, do they activate when you're not about to crash? Our seemed to pick up all sorts of 'threats' that were no threats at all, like a vehicle sliding over into a turn lane or just a vehicle in the turning lane. Alarms and wheel vibration and the vehicle jams on the brakes. It's offputting at best.
So, the wife disabled it in the vehicle's settings. As much as that seems counter intuitive, it makes sense for normal driving.
Y'all have the experience? Turn it off?

O/U a week until your wife has an accident the collision avoidance systems would have prevented.

My car flashes brake and starts beeping every time a car is making a turn in front of me because it predicts a crash since the car is "stopped" with my foot on the accelerator.

it scares the shite out of me when it slams on brakes when the wind blows.
I have a better question, shouldn't my insurance be cut in half with this feature on my car? Just asking.

It's very "meh".
Much slower than human interaction, but I guess if you were asleep it would be better than nothing. I can't say it's wonky and I've never turned it off.
The few times it has activated is when a car suddenly brakes in front of me and decides to turn. I have usually seen the situation and I know I would be past the car so no need to panic brake.
(2017 F-250 for reference)

Mostly annoying. It alerts every time it thinks you're getting too close to the center line or shoulder. Useful if somebody is coming up in your blind spot.

On the ones that I am familiar with there is a High, Medium and Low setting. I have found the low setting gets rid of most of the false alarms. If she turned it off, she should be pretty close to the sensitivity setting.

my wife's car flashes a red light onto the windshield to warn you but only takes over if its sketchy. I'd say it works well.

One of the Little Füts has it on an Accord.
I love it.
Not wonky in the Honda application.

That's exactly my point, seems counter active. Damn thing's going to make you wreck by startling you unneededly.

Rented a 18 Camry in Florida this weekend. Hated that feature. Told my passenger it's gonna end up killing someone, especially the lane departure assist. I will admit I switch lanes without signaling in open road and the damn wheel turning against you can cause an inexperienced driver to fight the wheel, overcorrect and crash. Also, had the car slam in the brakes at a stop light even though I was applying the brakes lightly.

The damn cruise on the new Camry's piss me off, just slows down all of the time.

Wife has it in Acura... works well if configured properly

I keep my emergency braking on and set to a pretty tight to moderate distance. It's saved me a couple of times, for sure.
Lane keep assist I only use when it's late or I'm noticeably tired.

As opposed to what kind of driving?

This is spot on. Unless you drive like gramdma, these systems drive you nuts with the "warnings" and jamming of brakes.
The cruise control is useless because you'll be cruising along I-10 at 75 and next thing you know, you are down to 55 because grandpa is driving slow in you lane 200 yards away. It's ridiculous.
The lane assist works very well though.
