Studying History teaches you how to research and use critical thinking.

You research and use critical thinking in all sorts of majors, even while learning something useful.

History is a fricking hobby.

Persuasive writing would be the biggest thing from a history major IMO.

I think what people don't realize is college for the most part is not job training, it's about making you a well rounded person that can write well, think critically, express thoughts and ideas, do independent research. These are all skills taught in basic liberal arts classes that almost all majors have to take and they are important for separating yourself when you do get into the job market.

Yep.

The ideal landing place if you have a liberal arts degree is a mid size company. A liberal arts degree means you have the ability to learn a broad range of subject matter...so they can train you and plug you in anywhere. And if they need you somewhere else in six months, they'll teach you how to do that job instead of hiring an unknown off the street.

Thanks for the response. I think my kid will end up in research. I doubt he will be a doctor, but you never know. We picked Utah specifically for the medical program there and the university hospital. They have a Biostatistics department which is where I see him ending up. Math brain with a medical interest.

Exercise Science? What is that and what kind of career is it used for? Yoga instructor? P.E. teacher?

Physical therapy (PT)
Occupational therapy (OT)

2 of the most in-demand positions in the modern healthcare economy and both still project great job growth for the foreseeable future.

I live in a college town with a big healthcare industry and you can't shake a damn stick without hitting a dozen students fighting for exclusive spots in an OT program.

Makes sense, I've never heard it termed that way before.
