College Graduation during the day on a weekday (Friday)

Why is this a thing? I graduated 5 and a half years ago and didn't attend my graduation, but for those who want to attend, why are they screwing over the students who do actually manage to land jobs in between the last day of class and the day they graduate?

Because a college typically has multiple graduation ceremonies with thousands of students and it takes a lot of time.

So if the student wants to attend their graduation, they have to ask for time off from a job they just started on what could potentially be the busiest time of their work-year?

There are different graduation ceremonies
ULL made us attend both the general assembly AND the college of engineering ceremonies. It sucks, but it's just 1 day

Yes. Time to be a grown-up.

It's always been a thing for graduation on a Friday. If you start a job between last class and graduation, no company will tell you to miss your graduation.

*shrug* I can't remember when mine was. Friday morning is a terrible time for a graduation though.

They have them all throughout the day. graduation starts early and goes until 5 pm with different colleges throughout the day and all over campus. Hell, LSU has tried 2 day graduations before where some have the ceremony on Thursday night.

Friday morning is an AWESOME fricking day for graduation. I just dropped $100,000 on tuition, apartments, cars, books, fees, etc for my kid. I get to knock off from the office 1 got damn Friday and you want to steal this from me? You self righteous dickbag.

Any company that has issue with giving a new hire time off to attend their own college graduation is not a company worth working for. I would expect anyone I hired between the last day of class and graduation day to ask me for time off to go to their graduation day.

The last day of class was 6 days ago.
You’re telling me a graduate landed a job earlier this week and couldn’t negotiate appropriately to start on Monday?

Sounds like a good excuse not to go.

This. And if they do, that's a good sign to go ahead and GTFO before it's too late.

Who starts working that soon after graduating? Shoot take a couple weeks off.

Skipped my first one because I was on a trip in Costa Rica, skipped my second one because I was working in Si valley.

Who the hell is already working their job before graduation? My wife was a psycho but even she waited until the Monday after graduation to start.
