They recommend visible ID badges for security clearance where I work. But people know who tf I am so I keep it in my pocket and pull it out to badge in at card readers where needed.

This might be the stupidest thread I've ever seen on here. You need to be banned.

Can you be more specific what type?

Mine carries my Security Badge that must be visible and key cards that grant me acess to secured areas... Along with other cards that are work related like certificates, scan cards, etc.
I don't know a single engineer, operator, technician, etc that doesn't wear one where I work. OP is dumb.

Don't wear one. Probably should. Too scared it could get caught and choke me.
Depends on your walk of life, but lanyard could mean a form of rigging and not a necklace.

If you are near rotating equipment it is a really really bad idea to wear it.

We aren't, at least not open. But they still require the break away ones
Posted on 4/5/17 at 11:03 pm to NATidefan
They require them for us, but I don't wear them. Along with most field employees.
Too much stuff to get caught on climbing or otherwise.

Yeah I wouldn't wear one if I was climbing around shite I could get tangled in. I do circuit board stuff. Lol

Badges are pretty damn common in the professional world. Walk around a hospital, school, office building, etc...white collar jobs are filled with them.
Why the frick would anybody care who wears a lanyard or clip. If you don't want a shirt snagged, wear a lanyard.

Lanyard envy is an ugly thing, bro
Posted on 4/5/17 at 11:33 pm to Serraneaux
I wear a lanyard on my hard hat instead of a chin strap. It looks better and is more comfortable. Unfortunately high winds don't give a shite.

This is ridiculous. When I worked for the Army I wore a lanyard because we had to carry our command IDs and CACs around everywhere we went.
When you're constantly having to swipe your ID to get in and out of the building and to move through it a lanyard makes much more sense than constantly clipping/unclipping something.

I can careless as long as it's a Jager lanyard.

That's why they require at least double breakaway lanyards at a ton of plants. I know of places that won't let you wear the clips, just these type of lanyards.

Everyone at my office puts their security badge on a reel type clip or hook to solve this problem. Nobody uses lanyards.

This is what I did.
Most people wear a lanyard.

Why not clip it to your pants pocket and have the id sit on the side of your pants? Much better option than having to wear a lanyard IMO.
