Houston isn't THAT much closer to Laredo... if at all closer.

Great! So shall we add San Marcos to the list as well?
you could be San Marcos has been south Austin for years,, Waco was not anything like Austin ( other than location) And I made it clear I'm not suggesting that Waco would become like Austin, only that is was at a similar "growth point" as Austin was in the 70's

Waco lacks the Govt. Biz influence its not as close to traditional vacation destinations ( Swimming pig for the win) but we're talking a 45 year cultural and economic change in the area as a whole. So of course Waco wont be Austin, but it will be the next medium size city in CenTex

Stayed at the Ace High Ranch outside Waco for homecoming weekend this year. Monster bucks, big bass, and a real nice spread 15 minutes from campus.

I'm tempted to bring my fishing gear this summer when I go up and try some Kayak fishing on the Brazos our near Cameron Park. If I can talk my son into letting me take his bass boat up in the fall I'm going to try the lake. I want to sailgate while there, his boat is green and gold.

The best thing about Waco is that it inspired this song:

hey man, I'm just passing on what she told me was her reason(s) for wanting to transfer. She made the dean's list (for academics) this past fall (freshman year) so I don't think its academics that are a challenge. But she said she spent more time at aTm on the weekends because it was more fun. She does enjoy deer hunting tho, so I tend to believe her on the Laredo thing.

Thanks BearFan, the experience you described is what my daughter is seeing. She is constantly studying (on spring break when she came home she spent most of her days reading and writing papers).

how overwhelming is the Baptist thing for a non-southern, other-religion female student?

My wife is a Baylor grad (2014). She was raised Catholic, went in being very religious, and is now a borderline atheist. Does that give you some idea?

She loves Baylor btw and highly recommends it. I'll get some notes and then post them here.

- She was a Political Science Major
- AD PI sorority girl, she says sororities are hugely popular there
- Studied a lot in college, graduated with a near perfect GPA
- Received a full scholarship to Loyola Law School in NOLA (which she walked out on quickly after realizing it really wasn't for her)
- Parents paid A LOT of money in tuition, fees, and what not (they could have bought her one of those newly renovated houses)
- She loves the school and is a proud alum
- Waco is a dump, but the campus is a beacon of light
- Like most things, the experience will be what you make of it

You need to hit up the lake. It look like shite, I know, but my brother in law fishes it five-six times a week and every time I'm in town we hit it up. Caught some nice sized fish on it.

I've only hit the Bosque river in the area, because I'm from China Spring and it runs through there and I'll go when the white bass are running.

China Spring, then you know where the Ace High Ranch is. Daughter's boyfriend will be working there this summer and is supposed to hook me up with a hunt in the fall. He's a second year Finance major.

Smart? No. It isn't Rice. It isn't Texas. It isn't even A&M.

that's the nicest thing you've ever said.

in sincerety, baylor is a great school, has a great campus, athletics on the rise, and good academics.

waco is a sucky town if you get off of 35.

if my kids want to go there, i will tell them they can pay for it, i will not. not due to rivalry or anything, there's just nothing Baylor offers in terms of academics that my kids can't get at A&M or Texas better for cheaper, unless they want a theological degree.

Daughter's 3 suite mates last year all joined sororities but she had no interest in it. Of the 3, 2 already switched majors out of medicine because of the workload.
