Cleveland cops...what if they refused to do NFL security?

Let's say the police nation wide decided to give a big frick you to BLM and the NFL and not provide security or traffic details for the games. Could the mayors intervene...maybe, but what pull do they actually have. Are they really going to fire all of the officers? There is no way that happens without concerns over policing the streets of the city that they govern. Maybe some large cities could manage, but this act would be an issue for most cities imho. Hell, a strike even shut down Mardi Gras one year. I'm just curious as to how this would play out. It would be a real shitstorm but frick the NFL.

Security is handled by off duty officers working security details. Can't force them to do it.

They would hire private security, but what would frick the teams good, is that they could get the department to back them, and they would refuse to handle traffic around the stadium, which would lead to a clusterfrick.
Especially in stadiums in downtown cities, traffic department gets the streets going and traffic and people traffic flowing.
Imagine 60K leaving a stadium, and derelict drivers trying to bully through intersections, pedestrians blocking traffic because they can.

Eta: I am not sure holding the taxpayers hostage because of some players actions will go well with the public.

No, it's an easy way of saying that there aren't enough officers in the department to patrol the streets and staff a 60,000+ person event. Thus, you have to ask officers who are off-duty to come in and work, which is a voluntary task.
If those officers don't want to be shite on while on a detail, they can go find one elsewhere, or even just stay home with their families until they have to return to their next shift, and let the NFL deal with their own security.
I can see how a snowflake who doesn't understand the concept of "work" would consider that to be semantics, though.

Are you actually saying that a guy who has finished his 40-60 hour week has to consider "the taxpayers" instead of staying at home during his off time?
Here's an idea, why don't the taxpayers go secure it themselves? Or why don't the taxpayers increase their taxes to allow the police department to handle 400 more officers to have available for football games so they can watch individuals with single digit IQs kneel during the national anthem without disruption?

Again, even if you disagree vehemently with these players, why get upset about someone making a political statement. Wanting people stifle their politics to avoid "bs" is very shortsighted.

So some cops get their feewings and jimmies rustled because of some players and then decide not to protect the public anymore. Then somehow I dont understand work. Right. Carry on.
