Again, even if you disagree vehemently with these players, why get upset about someone making a political statement. Wanting people stifle their politics to avoid "bs" is very shortsighted.

Exactly, so don't get upset about police officers deciding not to work a voluntary security detail.

I'm not upset? Where did I say or even imply I was upset about the police refusing to do this work?

So some cops get their feewings and jimmies rustled because of some players and then decide not to protect the public anymore. Then somehow I dont understand work. Right. Carry on.

Protect the public....when they aren't on duty?

Only a certain segment of the populace are allowed to take a stance on issues important to them. Everyone else has to play along silently.

Decisions have consequences...

Hold on, just a few posts ago you called it extra duty...?

The government does not get to pick and choose who they serve. This scenario would be a clear violation of the 1st Amendment protection of free speech. Never ceases to amaze how little "small government conservatives" are will to roll over basic rights to the government.

No, I didn't. I called it a private security detail.

They are not on duty. They're off work.

Are you retarded or what?

Nope. But it does imply that they'll only work extra duty if they agree with your politics

They aren't ALL working extra jobs. Some of them have to be on duty for a large event like that. Off duty guys are there of course but they don't want to do paperwork. They don't want to make arrests. They would hand that off to the officers on the police dept clock.

An NFL game is a massive city undertaking. They'd have to provide coverage. Think of the lawsuits and shitshow if an incident happened?

The NFL would probably cancel Cleveland home games. Some city would take them. San Antonio always steps up because they'd love a team.

The whole debacle comes down to a "this is why we cant have nice things" argument. Its dumb for the players to promote SJW type stuff and its dumb for the authorities to respond in kind.

Ultimately the real people who lose are the taxpayers caught in the middle, especially when the city loses an NFL team because of impulsive decision makers.

"Extra duty" is overtime. It's voluntary. Do you understand this? They can't compel officers to work overtime at a football game.

And in New Orleans, the entire Superdome is handled by off-duty private security details from NOPD, OPSO, JP, LSP, and probation and parole. The 8th district stays on the streets.

I am well aware of this. My point is off duty security work is not the same as extra duty while still in uniform.

By removing themselves from the game "extra duty" officers are essentially saying my feelings are hurt, so I wont protect the public anymore because of some players actions.

Is it too much to ask that they be the bigger person?

You need to get out more. (Thankfully) Not everyone in other cities are as fricked up as in NOLA .

Are you actually, of all people, trying to accuse people of hypocrisy?

I really don't give a rats arse what cops picking up off duty security decide to do.

They're choosing to spend the time at home with their families as opposed to going to the game. This is after they've already worked their full 40-60 hours for the week.

Deciding to not work overtime is not some slight to the taxpayer, nor is it owed to the taxpayer. The taxpayer, through the municipality, has chosen to not staff its police agency sufficiently to handle these events as part of its regular staffing. That's on the taxpayer.

Believing a person can't set his own terms or standards before voluntarily coming in to push his week to 70-80 hours is absurd.

The guy making $20mm annually can be the bigger person. Is it too much to ask that you stand there for 35 seconds? Is that too much to ask?

I think it interesting you expect more of football players than the people who swore to uphold the law and protect the public.

They're sworn to protect the public during their scheduled shifts.

They're not sworn to work overtime, security details, or protect the public when they're not working.

I think it's interesting you effectively believe those guys are slaves.

wat

I think you misunderstand me. I dont give a shite about their cause or beliefs. For all I know most of them could be thugs. I dont care.

That doesnt mean I dont support their right to say whatever it is they want to. Just as the off duty cops can choose to not work because their jimmies are rustled over people kneeling.

My point, is that I put both at fault, though I expect the better person to be the bigger person here. I also think it would be completely retarded for an NFL team to lose a host city because their security is holding them hostage.
