I’m in my last year in CE and I need to choose my senior design elective. The 2 choices are Design of Bridge or Design a Hydrologic System. Has anybody taken either of these and what are yalls opinions on what was more interesting and easiest?? TIA

Do you want to go into structures or water resources?
I would do bridges personally. Extra brownie points if you do ASCE/AISC steel bridge.

Are you more interested in getting into structural or public works and land development?

Go for a bridge.
Base it on the one that recently failed in Miami and make it better.

Bridge will be easier.
Hydrologic system will be more interesting.

That's cute. I think a 10 year old could design a bridge and static engineering is a joke.

The "easiness" is going to come down to how good your partners are. Which one is more interesting will come down to your preferences. more people seem interested in bridges, but hydrologic systems could be cool too if you like that kind of stuff. I just did the general civil for mine, and we did a bridge over the Amite and all the infrastructure that went into that. I had a good group, and Wolshon was our teacher, so it was easy for us

I did hydrologic design, and did the entire project in one weekend. Made a B. And now I've been doing land development for about 14 years, sooo...

Ok this sounds like a good engineering student, surprised he’s asking on TD though

Fairly certain you can just color this picture inside the lines and they give you an A in civil engineering.

Design a bridge that has a 90 degree curve at its foot and funnels everything down to 1 lane.

This sounds like it would be a good design for an interstate in a state's capitol city. Someone should look into that.

And if you take statics at Southern, you can do it all with the same color crayon.

Maybe he means from the age of 24 to 32 he will be alum with CE.
Most people that go to school for 8 years are called doctors.

Ha good point, but I graduated with business degree and then had a really good opportunity come up so I am going back to get CE degree now
