When you get a circumcision, there is so much skin that a gap of flesh is open when the skin is removed. The dr has to pull down the remaining skin and add stitches to close the gap in flesh, hence losing about a half an inch in length.

One of the risks of the surgery is cutting off your sons dick, the surgery is completely cosmetic in nature. God forbid something happen, will be an odd conversation later in life with your little girl..
