People with large thighs or wide hips are less likely to die early, according to scientists.

A study investigated risk estimates for three measures of central fat, including the circumference of the waist, hip and thigh. It also examined waist to hip, height and thigh ratios.

Researchers suggested that thigh and hip circumferences were “inversely associated with mortality risk”. Each 10cm increase in hip circumference was associated with a 10 per cent lower risk of all-cause mortality, and each 5cm increase in thigh circumference was linked to an 18 per cent lower risk.

I would imagine that is someone in a healthy state that has a larger build, sure. You can't just go chow down on fast food for a year and suddenly you're healthier because you became a fatty.

I will say this in working around healthcare and the elderly, those who are a little thicker tend to fair better if they age. The skinny ones seem to shrivel up to nothing and can’t fight stuff off as well. That is if you can avoid the heart attack, stroke, etc. that the risk of extra lbs bring during middle age.
