Well- I meant from feeder catholic schools…. I’d imagine that is the majority that are applying.

BUT- sports are different. We aren’t catholic, or go to catholic
School, but basketball coach has spoken to many numerous times for my son to transfer (8th grade). But I’m sure that’s at most schools for sports.

Demographically speaking, aren’t there less children nowadays compared to early 2000’s?? Might be reason for declining enrollment and lower standards. Universities are starting to experience the same issue…

Not the way you present it.

Of course it adds up because it’s happening— but “what” is happening

New Orleans metro less than 1M without the north shore.

If you include the north shore, you’ll add St Paul’s, Hannah, and Pope John Paul II.

Destrehan, Belle Chasse, Mandeville, Foitainbleau, etc are all well attended

Chalmette is the biggest public school in the state.

St Martins, Country Day, Newman, etc exist in New Orleans, too.

Even so— New Orleans Catholic high has much more than double the enrollment than Catholic/St Michael.

BR Metro includes 10 parishes. Several of those parishes have good public school systems and/or are too far from BR to send kids to BR Catholic schools anyway.

If you want to start carving everything out, look at it this way:
EBR is 457k people.
Orleans + Jefferson is 825k people.

And as mentioned, EBR includes the Central, Zachary, and Baker ISD’s.

Are you suggesting that if both New Orleans and Baton Rouge built a new Catholic high school, that interest would similarly weak.

I’m suggesting there would be a lot more interest in BR. Again, my question was: where are the non CHS/SMHS kids going?

I don’t think a lot of Zachary/Central/Baker kids are going there from Catholic elementary schools. Sure, a few are.

I’ve always said St. Theresa - St. John is missing out on big money by not having a catholic high school on the east side of Ascension Parish.

I’ve always figured it hasn’t happened because it might hurt Ascension Catholic, and to a lesser extent St. Michael’s.

I don’t know about now, but I went to st Theresa and only a few kids went to Ascension Catholic from my class. If they didn’t go to CHS, SJA or SMHS, they went to public school.

A few are probably are, but most are not which was my point. The “market” in Baton Rouge is smaller.

Catholic enrollment 1062
Jesuit enrollment 963

I’m not sure where this erroneous data came from. For Jesuit, this looks like numbers from the ‘60’s.

Current enrollment at Jesuit is 1368, and usually hovers between 1300 and 1400 boys.

Jesuit does have a pre-freshman, or 8th grade, class, although it is not as large as other classes, since many students enter in the 9th grade.

Jesuit includes students from over 50 zip codes.

Its the official enrollment number

You are counting their 8th grade

Divide any same sex school by 2 to get their official enrollment

Official enrollment taken in 2023 for the 2024-2026 seasons

It doesn't seem Catholic and St. Michael are as big as it seems they could be.

I believe they lose alot of good athletes to Ascension public schools. I would think Ascension Catholic would be massive if it were on the Eastbank of Ascension, where there is a massive Catholic population.
