Chromebook Crapping The Bed Again
Posted on 8/31/23 at 5:53 pm

Time for another. They used to last 3+ years before shitting the bed now it's a year. Any other low budget option for a web-surfer and email checker? Preferably something I can get at Walmart, about to be traveling for a while and can't have anything delivered.
Thanks in advance.

If you don't need a keyboard just get a tablet

The nice thing about Chrome is that you can install it on a whole host of low end or older hardware. Chrome OS Flex can be downloaded and installed on just about any x86 machine. I’m evaluating it right now on an old box. So you could always pick up a reliable used Dell or something and install it yourself.

I need a keyboard, in case you haven't noticed.

Stop jacking off on your Chromebook and it'll last longer.

Did I or did I not say "low budget"?

It's hardware issues with the screen and keyboard, mostly with the screen. Just shite arse components failing.

I don't know what Chromebooks go for, but you can get into a Macbook in the $700-$750 range these days.

I bought a Lenovo brand Chromebook beginning of the scamdemic. Hi def screen was my main criteria. I think I got it at office Depot. Kids using my PC was becoming a hassle because each teacher had to reinvent the wheel on video chats.

Get the $200 Asus with Windows installed. It's really the only feasible alternative to the Chromebook.

I’ve never had a Chromebook but computers that run on crappy chips always crap out quickly. Buy a comp with an intel i5 or i7 and you won’t have this problem.

Why not continue to get chromebooks? They are about $200. Anything else is going to be min $400ish that is windows or iOS. If you get 3 years out of it so be it. Just continue to get new ones.
Unrelated, I don’t understand how timid people are buying a quality laptop lasting 5-7 years for 900-1,300 but will drop 1,000 on a new phone every other year. I used my college MacBook until 2015 but had 5* iPhones in that time span.
*4 of them were work phones I was forced to upgrade on due to security reasons.

I'm posting this on a 2011 MacBook Air. I use it for surfing, youtube, streaming TV and some MS Excel. It is a tank.
Would you rather spend $169 per year or get something for $750 that will last you more than 10?

Say it a little louder. It’ll reflect off the Rolls Royce.
