COLUMBUS, Ohio – Crews early Wednesday removed the statue of Christopher Columbus from in front of Columbus City Hall. Shortly before 6:30 a.m. local time, the statue was lifted off its pedestal and rotated to face City Hall. Within an hour, the statue had been placed onto a flatbed truck and taken away from the area.

According to a press release issued by the city Wednesday morning, Smoot Construction was involved in moving the statue, which “will be placed in safekeeping at a secure city facility.”

The decision was hailed by groups that say Columbus statues depict the explorer’s genocidal cleansing of the New World and exploitation of Native people, and opposed by Italian-Americans who say the statues are works of art that forge goodwill and should be preserved.

Are we doing away with Mt. Rushmore, all the monuments in DC and other places as well?

That may very well be next. This nonsense reminds me of the Taliban.

Where can I go to bid on that fricker? It would look great at the end of my driveway. Maybe have a hole cut into for a mailbox.

American progressives are a bigger threat to statues and monuments than ISIS or the Taliban.

Absurdity aside-----Where does the mantra that Columbus massacred all of the Native Americans even come from? I'm pretty sure he never even set foot on the North American continent.

Other than the Spanish in Mexico, I am not aware of any mass-scale slaughter of the natives anywhere in North America. Now, I am sure there were plentiful localized instances, on both sides btw. But no one massacred all of the Indians.

Yet we ignore active African genocides every single day?

So, what are we going to call the city now, the city formerly known as Columbus Ohio?

While we're removing every single thing tied to slavery, we all need to stop listening to music. Because what we call blues/jazz/rock and then much later rap - all comes from slaves bringing their native country's form of music together. The song "Amazing Grace" - yeah, that's tied to slavery.
