Standard LaPlace/Hahnville trash, or bussed-in trash from Tennessee hill country? Can never tell with these guys...

Many moons ago, Mr Lloyd, proprietor of the one that used to be on Vets across from K&B, would let all of us little neighborhood dago kids work there for tips - no pay.

Good deal for him because paying us would have really cut into his Scotch drinking.

I've always figured they're probably carnies making some money in the off season.

Yep. That’s how little RummelTiger bought his first Mongoose back in the mid-80’s.

If you worked at Lloyd's tree stand in the mid 80's we definitely know each other.

I bought a dual tape deck from Alterman Audio with my loot. Could press play on tape A & record on B and make a top notch mix tape.

I know they hire locals at those shady farms that pop up along Vets and Pontchartrain Blvd, because a few years ago one of the tree professionals ID'd me as having prosecuted him and got angry and aggressive. That'll kinda ruin what you remember as a kid when picking out a tree, and will traumatize a wife.

My BIL said he got his tree from there, paid $20 more than we did. But that may be worth not having to deal with Carney Chad hacking away at the base with his shitty chainsaw.

It's a life changer. They travel up to the farm and hand pick all their trees. Everything is nicely set up, already in stands with water in them, on concrete so you aren't slipping around in a muddy field with those rebar spikes sticking up everywhere. Their ordinary workers are there helping you. I get mine delivered already on the stand and they've always lasted longer than the ones I get at those shady places. Will never go anywhere else again.

The tree lots by me that aren't attached to a big box store like Home Depot are usually family run small businesses.

Although last year the lot we usually go to (family run) said that with the shortage of Christmas trees due to the 2007-2008 recession, prices for the trees have gone up and many of the smaller businesses couldn't get as many trees for their lots. Some even went out of business.

Back in the early 2000’s as a high school kid I would work at the Christmas tree lots after our football season would end

I would make a ton of money in the short amount of time for a high school kid

Taught me how to work soccer moms for extra cash
