How long did you guys date before you met her kids?

I get it. Should have just dealt with it.
This is the question I was asking so I appreciate your response, particularly if you can in any way relate.

She puts the phone in my face and tells me ‘look how happy they are!’ To which I reply ‘i would rather not watch videos of your ex husband on my Christmas morning, but great they are having a good time’.
A simple I'm glad they are having a good time would've led to you enjoying your coffee and day off but now you get to deal with bullshite all day.
Congrats on working on your relationship today.

We dated seriously for about a year, some of which I was overseas for work

Not being cut out for step parenting could be a real issue. I've struggled with some aspects as I think anyone would, but largely think I do OK.
FWIW - I love the kids. I think they are incredible
When you two get married, you'll have the full responsibilities of a father. You aren't going to be able to leave all the work to her while you go play every day just because they aren't your biological children. Those will be your kids. If that doesn't sound appealing to you it might be a good time to cut out.

That said a divorced woman with two kids should be bending over backwards to make sure anyone willing to date her is happy. Seems like this woman may be difficult enough to consider not taking that much further
Well, based on this thread, she seems to have him pretty whipped, so why act in a manner against her nature?

Curious what would make you say that?
Is it because I'm willing to date a woman with children?

frick step-parenting. Something I will never do.

Yes, in part. Also your manner and tone generally give that impression.

Was it really that much of an inconvenience to you to look at a few videos, smile and tell her that you're happy that her kids are happy?

Yes, you sound like an arse hole.

I started dating my now wife of almost 10 years when she had 2 girls that age. I had to watch them dread going to their dads and stepmom and come home crying b/c they never got a gift while they sat there watching their half brother and half sister opening gifts, even their older step siblings. I’ve watched their dad lie and abandon them over the years only to now they are older and easier to take care of try to get back in their lives and they want nothing of him, it’s sad thing to see. Yes, you should have just told her you are glad they look happy. Now if it was one of those 5-10 min long arse videos that would get annoying, I hate people shoving long arse videos in my face no matter what it is.

Why are you with a women who just got divorced with two kids 7 and 4, you are picking low hanging fruit.
But if you are going to do it the kids come first, before you her or the X so get used to it

I appreciate all the insight.
Seems some people think what I did should have been ok, others I'm an a-hole.
I was curious on if there was a clear cut majority but doesn't seem to be.
Different strokes for different folks...

And this is the first fallout y’all have had about her kids? Y’all been together for a year and a half and this is what made you start questioning this relationship?
What signs did you see but ignore?
