This is completely insane....

quote:

the school board was not offering the schools for free; the church was paying rent. Let me add that the people in that church are paying taxes to the school district and rent to use the space.

The Housing Authority of the Birmingham District and the Birmingham Board of Education also just cut ties with Church of the Highlands because Chris liked those social media posts.

But, the school district does not want the money and the housing authority does not want their service to the poor.

quote:

Here is a church that wants to serve—and has served—and is leading the way in its community. Unfortunately, as of this writing, “The Housing Authority of Birmingham Division voted on Monday to no longer allow church volunteers and clinic workers to do work at public housing communities.”

They want to cancel the church’s ministry to the poor because they did not like the pastor’s social media likes?

Becarful What You Like For

quote:

Charlie Kirk, the conservative leader of Turning Point USA. Kirk is an outspoken supporter of President Trump and has been at the center of several high profile conflicts over the past few years. Like many other social media figures, Kirk seems particularly skilled at provoking outpourings of admiration and disdain in equal measure. He knows how to use social media.

quote:

Kirk represents a significant number of Americans, many of whom identify as evangelical.

quote:

This controversy soon invovled Chris Hodges, the pastor of Church of the Highlands in Birmingham, when he liked some of Kirk’s social media posts

quote:

Hodges was a Trump supporter. He has also led his church to be the largest diverse church in Alabama, to engage the poor and marginalized, and to minister widely and well in his community. He and the church he leads has served the poor, engaged the sick, volunteered in the schools, and more. During the pandemic, Church of the Highlands has served thousands of meals, made masks, hosted blood drives, and helped other churches with online services.

quote:

He also liked some social media posts. LINK

quote:

“As a pastor and, more importantly, as a follower of Jesus, I work to consider every action carefully, weigh every word, and be respectful of every person and opinion, as Christ taught.

I realize that I have hurt people that I love deeply because I ‘liked’ multiple insensitive social media posts. Each one was a mistake. I own it. I’m sorry. . . .

Over the last 20 years, our church and I have fought for the disenfranchised, marginalized, and hurting of ALL races in our community. But this week, I’ve learned that even with 20 years of loving and serving people, it’s still possible to have a blind spot that you just didn’t know was there.

I realize it is my responsibility to have more conversations to become better aware of the pain and the hurt, and to understand ALL people better.

I appreciate their service to their community, but why don't they have their own facilities?

They have several of their own facilitates and campuses. They also broadcast their services every Sunday in all the prisons in Alabama.

Lots of ARC Churches use schools on the weekends to hold their services. It's a very common practice.

State owned facilities should not be associated with any religion.

so the state shouldn't be allowed to rent out the Superdome in case the Pope wanted to come an give a message?

Remember when the Pope came to NOLA and held his gathering at UNO.....you dont agree with that either?

They rent in areas until they have enough funds to pay cash for a facility. They paid like $25-$30m cash for a building off of Hwy 280 in Bham a few years back.

I’m very conservative, but Charlie Kirk is just unbearable.

I've only been to the main campus in Bham and that place is incredible. That must be the one you're talking about

Sorry, bub.

Jesus won't be able to save you from what's about to happen. Apologies don't mean shite.

I don't know which facility he's talking about, but their main campus isn't off Hwy 280. They have 2 facilities off 280, though no idea if they own both of them. They really foul up traffic on Sunday mornings.

The one I'm talking about is the main campus, not sure what the road is... but by the big car dealerships and yes, there are multiple cops out there directing traffic and traffic is a shite show.

That place holds like 4000 people and they have 2 services every Sunday

Grants Mill is the Main Campus

quote:

Grants Mill
Our Grants Mill location is historically our first and largest location. It is located in east Birmingham, off the Grants Mill Road exit on Interstate 459 near the intersection of Interstate 20.

It will not work out well for you.

JUDGE OTHERS; YOU WILL BE JUDGED" Matthew 7

You judge others without mercy, you will not receive mercy.

Grants Mill Rd, just off I-459. It's close to Hwy 280, but not the one he was talking about. I think he's talking about their facility in Grandview in the old Healthsouth building. They also have one further down 280 near Greystone. That's the one that fouls up Sunday morning traffic because it's on a 2-lane road close to another large church - Church of Brook Hills.
