surprise

just as shocking as finding out the D.A.R.E. program has been a giant waste of money.

"Just say no" education is proverbially wishing with one hand while you crap in the other.

I would rather get the treatment for the clap than the test to see if you have it. IIRC thats the cotton swap in your dick hole test. That sucks. I think the cure is a shot of penicillin.
Yep, the test is a bitch and a half...

Laugh all you want about abstinence programs, but you watch your damn mouth about DARE!! That program has saved more lives than you can imagine. Sorry you were just too hopped up on pot and crank to realize how much better the world is because of the good work done at DARE.

So when a teenage boy is dating a teenage girl and she says "ram it in my sperm recepticle" he's supposed to think "now, now, my parents abstained before marriage and I should strive to emulate that?" I hope the fantasy land you live in has crawfish year round.

Wouldn't happen in my family. My son's wouldn't date such trash. Sorry your daughter is that way.

Abstinence starts way, way before that point. If its done correctly the boy or girl is never in that position.

23, 19, 15, and 4.

23 made it to marriage without STDs, Kids, sex (as far as I know) and married his high school sweetheart.

19 year old has one two years of mission work in Chicago.

15 year old and 4 year olds are at home.

So you chain them up in the basement and never let them interact other than under a watchful eye? .

FWIW, I'm 25 and neither one of my parents has ever spoken a single word about sex to me in my life. I never got the clap and never had a kid and I turned out great.

By OT standards my parents were horrible for not buying me condoms and telling me to not be a slut. Either your kids are stupid or they aren't.

Mine didn't either. They knew I was so ugly there wasn't a need.

Is 20 out of 300 higher or lower than non abstinence schools?

20 out of 300 is between 6 and 7%.

So 93% are chlamydia-free. I wonder if the Chicago public schools can say the same thing?

Statistically insignificant for teens in west Texas without more information.

20% of the brides in the Puritan settlements in New England were pregnant when they got married - and that happened with strict religious indoctrination, chaperoned dates, and bundling (Google it).

There's the ideal and then there's reality. In truth, if supporters really were confident in the efficacy of abstinence-only education then they wouldn't be worried about them also learning about Jimmy hats and diaphragms. They'll never have reason to use them anyway, right? That's like being worried about boys knowing about tampons.

Plus, suppose the kids backslide on the frontside? Why not cover the bases and avoid the junk warts, herps, clap, syphilis, aids, and baby bumps?

The only reason a straight American teenage male would turn down sex is because of nerves. None of them are thinking about disappointing their parents.

I often suspect the hostility to abstinence policies is not only because they may reflect a practical moral/ethical code that calls for self-discipline and self-denial in sexual matters which at heart are religious,(particularly Christian

I have ZERO doubt the majority of those who came down with this after fricking identify as Christian. Hell I have ZERO doubt that they go to church each sunday.

Abstinence education is a giant failure...yet the christian right continues to tout it...
