Can't knowingly give an educated synopsis as to the benefits of balloon vs satellite. What I can acknowledge is there has to be some differenciat advantages between the two`s abilities/capability.
The U.S utilizes said high altitude balloons as well for "data gathering". More times than not there is one or more of these U.S high altitude balloons up over the U.S "gathering data" aka spying on the citizens.

The Pentagon decided not to shoot down the balloon, which was potentially flying over sensitive sites, because of concerns of hurting people on the ground.

So we won't shoot down things because they will fall to the ground.

Defense capabilities are rather compromised.

I said yesterday that I don't see what this balloon could do that a high tech satellite couldn't
My theory is that this isn’t about spying. China knew the U.S. would spot this balloon.

I think China did this to test the U.S. response.

China said Friday that a balloon spotted over American airspace was used for weather research and was blown off course

Does anyone really believe China would actually admit that it WAS a spy vehicle?

Wouldn't the proper action, if it was simply blown off course, to inform the US of the situation? Even if the claim was bullshite, at least set the lie up correctly!

quote:

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Friday she had no information on the trip.

Again, would expect any other response?

quote:

Chinese Foreign Ministry said the balloon a was civilian airship used mainly for meteorological research.

Hmmmm....

quote:

The ministry said the airship has limited “self-steering” capabilities and “deviated far from its planned course” because of winds.

Wonder if they'd be willing to share the planned course with us. They should have that available almost immediately, right? No need for a long drawn out procedure to draw one up that happens to coincide with those crazy winds we've had, right?

Latest slap in the face from this country. Sickening. We should do everything we can do get every part of our supply chain out of China.

Why China made the balloon so conspicuous.

Have seen our president? They know he wont do shite about it.

Hell...he probably took money from them to let it fly over. How much is 10% of that thing worth?

They flew this thing right over nuclear sites and the government didn’t bat an eye. We are so fricked if they actually wanted to try something.

Outright war with China by 2025. Heard it here first.
Might as well battle it out for global domination. Sick of all the posturing. However, the smart play would be to wait out the Chinese. They are about to have a catastrophic population crunch because of the One Child Policy. I wouldn't be surprised if we eventually see major civil unrest. But the Chinese might make their move out of desperation before the collapse happens.

On the balloon, I think we should eliminate it and retaliate against China in kind. The Chinese are obviously lying as they always do.
