Before I sold my soul to the cover band devil, I played a few shows at all the bars on chimes street. I'm curious to see what comes of the documentary since that's pretty much the only place I went out in the late 90's. I really hope they say something about 3BM, so there's a little humor.

The Police did as well WAY BACK in the day (i'm an old guy)
there was also a group called The Phantoms that played the area. lead singer was really messed up
Beat Farmers also played once - cool guys that let me and my buddies hang around shooting the shite with us between their sets

Man or astro man? Played at the bayou, and I think it was even the actual band (not one of the clone bands). Ben lee played there as well.

The Varsity shows were epic. I remember BetterThnEzra, PublicEnemy, MyLifeWithTheThrillKillKult, ConcreteBlonde, ReverendHortonHeat, KMFDM, and more.

I think I went to ever BTE concert in and round Chimes Street during my time at LSU....but it was after much of the music scene had started to fade. One or two student venues that hosted a lot of live music lost their liquor licenses, and at least one burnt down. Now we have Reginelli's and some Hibachi joint instead.

I think the area still has potential....but the type of student that lives in that area has also changed. Some of those newer apartments are pretty expensive.

Fun time in history and music although I don't remember much special about Chimes Street (discounting Sex, Lies, and Videotape maybe) and even less si about Baton Rouge's music scene, which has always been underwhelming.

A friend of mine was stabbed in the back with a broken beer bottle on Chimes back in the early 90s. I think the gang was called the Gutterpunks but I could be wrong.

I was a regular on Chimes from the late 70's to mid-80's. The Shitdogs were the shite!

I remember my brother and I stumbling out of the Varsity in 1995 to our car when my brother got jumped by a bunch of Chime streeters on Chimes St. About 4 on 1. I jumped in to help him and separated by shoulder. Still pops out from time to time. Good memories. Probably same losers who now beg for my money on Corporate Blvd. or College Dr.

Rereading an old thread on this topic from almost exactly 7 freaking years ago, 8/2008.

fricking weird to reread your own words from that long ago.

I saw the Dick Nixons at The Chimes. That was some funny shite. They would always say it was their last show, and then destroy their "equipment" at the end. The drums might be made of trash cans and buckets.

I saw the drummer hanging in a bar in Donaldsonville one night and told him I had seen his band and enjoyed the show. He seemed so excited that someone recognized him. Cool guy.

Modest Mouse, At The Drive Inn, Slobberbone, Modern English all played the Bayou in the late late 90's before it burned to the ground. Legendary bar and thankfully immortalized in Sex, Lies .....
