At that age I'd already seen grandmother grab a hen, lay it over a cutting block and whack its neck with an ax then release it while waiting fir the water to boil to pour over it in a foot tub to pluck.

He didn’t seem bothered by it. I don’t think he fully comprehends what that means.

, of course he doesn't understand. That's fine. He'll figure it out.

I made sure my kid knew at an early age. There's no point in hiding it from them. It wasn't too long ago in human history that every child at a young age would have been exposed to the actual slaughtering of the animals on the farm.

I don't remember having this talk. I think it's normally pretty easy for them to figure it out.

My 3 year old girl fully understands that I shoot and kill the venison we eat. The little weirdo likes playing with their tongues before I clean them. She's always asking me when I'm going to shoot another deer, and really wants me to shoot a turkey so she can eat it.

Yeah, kids are pretty comical at that age. They don't fully understand death.

My wife's grandmother passed when they were young. We've been open with them that she's deceased and tried to explain as best we can. They routinely blurt out that "Mommy's grandma is dead" whenever someone is talking about grandparents. You've got to chuckle at their innocence and bluntness.

The majority of kids take it better than adult SJW snowflakes.

At what age and how do you explain that meat is dead animal flesh?

Since they’ve been old enough to comprehend. I’d let them help me clean squirrels and rabbits and deer.

We kill. We are killers, like every other predator out there. No sense in making it some taboo thing. It’s what must happen.

Agreed. No sense in hiding the fact that we’re atop the food chain.

I have a garden and grow my own veggies when I can. Try to teach them how awesome it is to be able to raise something up from a little seed and grow it until it’s on your plate. The satisfaction you get from harvesting your own and knowing where your food comes from.

Same thing with harvesting prey.

Plus it’s fun.

A garden is my first project when we buy a house. Thinking about getting a couple pepper plants for the patio now. We’re going to bring my salsa to the farmers market here and a good selling point would be that we grew most of the ingredients.

I’ve got tomatoes going. Probably 10 different kinds. Maybe more

Rosemary, lemon thyme, German thyme, marjoram, tarragon, chives, pinapple sage, sage, genovese basil, thai basil...spearmint.

Green onions. red potatoes. Purple yellow and green bell peppers. Poblanos.

Squash, zucchini, butternut squash. Cucumbers.

Probably a few other things. It really is satisfying
