Chicago starts 2023 where 2022 left off

10 weekend homicides including 6 New Year’s Day. One death was a 9 year old. Sad start to the year in the Windy City.

What's the obsession people have with Chicago homicides? I've been seeing this from people online for at least the last 10 years or so. Literally the only place I see about shootings is on here. Are you following the daily stats by yourself or is it a tv news show or website that you follow that posts this daily? I don't get the fascination of posting about murders in another city that is hundreds or thousands of miles away from you and one you obviously will never visit because you have a fear about it from looking at the daily murders. It's pretty strange.

Most of it is in bad neighborhoods on the south side and the west side. But it’s been creeping into what are widely considered good neighborhoods lately.

Yet a 9yo can be killed in their own neighborhood and it’s ho hum business as usual. Nobody knows his/her name or cares.
Why not? Their life matters exactly the same as Alton Sterling, St. Floyd, Mike Brown, Jonathan Brooks, and all the other “martyrs”
