Because the teachers' union threatened to strike. What's even more remarkable is that the same union is lobbying for fewer hours of virtual instruction each day as well. A real profile in courage and diligence, oh brave molders of young minds. Of course, the union is trying to tout this as some great triumph for public health and safety. Sure, that was the motivation. Not self-interest and indolence.

How many childcare/YMCA/Youth organizations do you think will be open for kids to come to, complete with tutors?

Stay at home parents with patience could make bank right now
Kid brings their own tablet / laptop
You monitor them doing their work & provide lunch & snacks

They could. Too bad they won't have a tax rebate to pay for that service.

Was this done because of COVID or because of all the shootings up there?

And they fall even further behind in education.

Isn't Chicago basically over all this anyway?

This all just amazes me.

None of this is gradeable

You can just claim your internet connection went out or whatever

Not that the high school diplomas mattered anyway

I got my kiddo one of those soft cases so she can’t break her iPad (again). You think Apple sells a Kevlar one specifically for Chicago public school?

I wonder what’s worse, the quality of teachers in Chicago or the students?

I’d go with the Kevlar backpack. It will handle the iPad and provide a greater coverage area, not to mention the extra space for a tourniquet, and Quik Clot.

I’ve never been shot at, but I’d imagine it’s like dodgeball: dodge, duck, dive, and dodge. Seems like you’d want maximum agility. Plus the iPad Pro is huge. I’m imaging it used captain America style.

Riddle me this, Batman...

If the kids aren’t going to school and the teachers want to do fewer hours on distance learning, why the frick do we need so many teachers?

Seems like an easy way to do a Reduction In Force.

"I raised my princess to be an entitled shithead, and I keep enabling her. Chicago public school students must be the same way."

I assume the teachers have locked themselves into home bubbles since last March? No grocery shopping, trips to Lowe’s, bars, or protests?

Are you advocating “Defund the Teachers”?

Let’s see, instead of at school sometimes and less trouble we’ll give the little gangbangers more time to freely roam the streets doing thug life wanna-be things.

Imma gonna go head n say 38% rise in crime....should I bet the over or the under?

Only if the teachers don’t want to show up and do their jobs. Which is exactly why they are going to full virtual, as the teachers and that fricking Hutt president of theirs threatened a strike.
