The new Blazer makes me sad.

The 2020 Chevy Blazer Is So Disappointing It Hurts a Bit

quote:

Original K5 Blazers were once very much A Thing. A real competitor to the Jeep CJs and Ford Bronco, Blazers were tough truck-based SUVs that looked good and were genuinely capable and fun. You could take the roof off them! Almost every Scoutmaster I had as a kid had one, and every Park Ranger we encountered drove one, too.

quote:

Didn’t anyone at Chevy look at what Ford is planning with their re-born Bronco and at least have a moment’s pause and think, huh, maybe we shouldn’t just flush away the Blazer name like this in a cynical, half-arse attempt to shove yet another almost indistinguishable SUV into people’s driveways? I’ve stared into the squinty face of the new Blazer, and I saw nothing. I saw no Blazer, I saw no potential for rugged fun, for utility and joy, for anything any human could actually be excited by.

When 10 year olds write reviews.

A squinty face. Oh no.

Needs a psychiatrist.

They're not bringing it back. It’s already out.

Was behind one the other day and thought it was a new Equinox or Traverse. Really uninspiring.

Test drove one last month. Salesperson kept saying, it's basically like a land Rover but less expensive.

It had some nice bells and whistles, pano sunroof was nice and overhead backup camera, etc. But overall not really anything special.

Is this the Blazer everybody misses?

90% of the people complaining about the new Blazer wouldn’t have bought a retro version anyway. Including the author of that article. At least now Chevy makes some money off the name.

It is like time and again the commenters on auto websites say ‘If car company does X then I will buy one’. So the car company does X and no one buys it. Mainly because the broke nerds commenting on the websites can’t afford a new vehicle.

Didn’t the blazer go from being built on the Silverado frame to being built on the S10 frame?

I’m guessing every single person who was excited about this was hoping for the removable top version that was on the full size frame.
