They use “chemical castration” for bad prostate cancer. The cancer feeds off testosterone so they give the patient a shot every 3 months to suppress testosterone which kills/starves the cancer. They’ll do this for about 2-3 years, or just a few months until radiation.

I'm still here almost four years after being diagnosed and my PSA is nondetectable. But I can tell you, with all things being equal, I'm going to probably have to skip the hormone treatment next go round. It seriously fricks with your system.
I started crying during a Hyundai commercial that didn't even involve pets or small children - and I don't even like Hyundais! Pre-cancer treatment, I think I cried over a couple of deaths in my immediate family over the past 40 or 50 years. Now I'm blubbering over car commercials or random human interest stories on the local news. It's fricking embarrassing!
