Texas really does have it's own culture depending on where you live. San Antonio alone has many cultures coming together. There is the old, working class Mexican culture on the west and southside. The suburbs and new developments make you feel like you live in the midwest. The new money feels like Dallas. The old money feels like the deep South. If you live in the country it's like the open range/wild west.

So everyone who is dependent on the government is intelligent and cultured while those who strive for self sufficiency and independence are backwoods simpletons.

It has really changed a lot with all the growth between Austin and San Antonio. It is a sweet place to live, but I wouldn't consider it unless I had a job in New Braunfels or San Marcos. That commute from NB > SA is just ridiculous. The schools are kind of trashy too. (I think I am just a pretentious frick when it comes to schools though)

If you wanted to REALLY break things down into a "south" and "deep south" I'd agree that LA is a bit different than the stronghold deep south states of Ga/AL/MS. But LA is absolutely still southern, if not then what would it be? I don't think a state should have its own separate classification like "French" or some shite like that.

But, much of rural Louisiana is pretty much just like (or at least very similar to) much of rural Georgia.

Those areas are related because they were affected by mountain building during the formation of Pangea. Africa collided with the N. American east coast, and S. America with the then N. American south coast.

Barely any of Kansas is Appalachian as the map shows. The map has nothing to do with geography either.
