Wow... have been seeing the other post for a few days and though nothing of it. Just put my info in and apparently im a grand prize winner of $595 plus whatever else I will get taxed with because apparently my 23yo self let his insurance lapse

after paying off $800+ in holds last year and all kinds of tickets I would have flipped if I did have issues now.

That sucks they are going back so far. You could have committed a felony in 2004 and can't be charged due to statue of limitations.

What is the deal here? I saw someone bitching about this on Facebook, something about him owing money on 2 cars that he sold years ago.

I don't even know what my old Louisiana DL is. From reading the other thread I'm almost positive I have one.
I left Louisiana for Texas years ago, sold my truck here and definitely didn't send anything to Louisiana. There's no way I'm going to get the letter if they sent it to my old LA address.
This is gonna be a nightmare.

I moved from LA to TX and sold my LA registered vehicle in TX. About 3 weeks later I get a letter mailed to my parent's address in LA from the DMV saying I had a lapse in coverage and owe money.
I mailed the DMV a copy of my insurance cancel letter from the ins. agency, and a copy of my bill of sale. The DMV sent me a letter about 2 weeks later saying the fines had been canceled.
If anyone can get a copy of their bill of sale and the insurance cancel letter they may be able to get the fee waived.

I don't understand what this is about.
They are saying that I can't be looked up because my insurance cancelled on a car I turned in 2 months ago and my wife's car we still have.
No idea what's going on.

I know a number of people who moved away, then back to Louisiana over the last few years & all of them had issues when getting their new LA driver's license once they returned to LA.
They moved to a new state, then obtained new license plates, DL, and insurance in the new state. However, the State of LA assumed the car was still in LA, but the insurance had expired, so a flag was placed on the person's record.
They then moved back to LA, go to obtain a new DL & register their vehicle(s), but were notified of the flag on their record. The person simply explained they moved out of state (they had proof because their current DL & other documentation was currently from that state), and in almost all of these cases the person at the OMV office simply cleared that flag and waived any fees.
It seems most of the current issues & fines are very similar except these people never moved back to LA & had that flag/fee waived.
It's obvious the OMV knew of the problem, otherwise they wouldn't delete the fees so easily when someone returned to the state.

I checked and I'm not showing any flags.
But, if something does come up for me in the future and if it goes back prior to 8/29/2005, I'm fricked because I lost all my records to 8 feet of water in my house in Lakeview.
