Yep. The reason a lot of men don't cheat is because they don't have the opportunity to cheat. They go out and try to run game when the wife isn't around and then get mad when the wife does the same thing but does it well enough to get laid.

Well, I mean, most of the time when there are increased female opportunities to cheat, it comes fundamentally from the male sacrificing and providing for the family.

So there is that as far as an increased feelings of betrayal goes.

If so, then everyone cheats when they watch porn.

I'm sure I'm getting cheated on but it's one of those things I think you just learn to deal with. You have to pick your battles.

Spaceman, I'm going to be real honest. I think Hank Williams Jr. wasn't far off the truth when he sang he likes to have woman he's never had. And woman are no different than men. Sometimes for some folks they just aren't happy even when they got all the P or D they can handle at home. You can ask this question to 1,000 different people that have had affairs and get 1,000 different answers. I often wonder if it's just not in most humans DNA to sleep with just one person forever until you die once you are married. Often I think people jump off into marriage for a variety of reasons other than they truly love that person and can't live without them. Getting some strange every now and then is just part of society world wide based off my travels and my observations across the globe. Is it right or wrong, well that's not for me to judge. I'm only responsible for my actions and if I ever stepped out my wife would kill me, take all my money, and I would be living in a van down by the river.

People weren't meant to be monogamous. But monogamy leads to more stable family units and, by extension, societies.

It's a conundrum.

So what makes a person cheat?
There are many reasons that lead people to cheat.

quote:

Is it what they aren't getting at home?
sometimes, but that's not how to address it. You can never fix a problem with the marriage by turning to someone outside of the marriage.

quote:

That they are a piece of shite?
some are and some aren't. I've known some very good people who have cheated

quote:

Or they just don't give a damn about things anymore?
I have seen this be the case when some wanted to leave the relationship but couldn't just end it so the stepped out and "ironically" got caught.

quote:

is it becoming more acceptable?
acceptable by whom? Spouses or society?

quote:

And, is the person who dates/screws a married person really looked down on?
sometimes yes and sometimes no. Depends on many things, like the ages and socioeconomic status of those involved. Also culture makes a difference too.

I don't think there are simple answers to your questions. When you consider all of the possibilities for underlying individual character issues, presence of mental illness, substance abuse, coping ability of the partners etc etc it becomes a very complicated picture. I do think that if you are someone who finds him/herself getting caught up with ideas and fantasies about someone else that it is a good time to spend some time with yourself on why you are feeling that way. Don't just go with the feelings and let it happen without giving it alot of self examination. Many times, it's a problem with the person who is considering cheating, but they can't see it.

Insecure, jealous, protective husbands are far more likely to be cheated on.
