The defense, knowing the trail would be a sham and ultimately end in a conviction on at least 1, if not all charges, could have/should have/probably knew of this (and of other similar juror issues).
Any good defense attorney, knowing the jury would not be fair and impartial, would hold this information for an appeal.
I'm a retired plant baw, so not too bright, though this appears glaringly obvious to me!
