That's not entirely true. His close friends knew that he was active on message boards and was into the extreme of things. Fairly certain he was suspended from HS because of racial fight or some other nonsense.
With that being said, I do find the "he had black friends" line comical.

Honestly, once he (the jackass who attacked people with his car) was identified, it doesn't take long to find out basic information about him.
Were the guys who went to her from a local news channel or some "amateur" news guys? Let's say they find out who the guy is within 30mins after the accident. They find out where he lives or who his mother is and they immediately go there.
And this is to the person who said something about how didn't she know about it year. A lot of people don't follow the news. Like many people, I have news apps set to notify me when there is breaking news, etc, but if someone doesn't have notifications set on their phone and don't watch the news then it is well within reason for them to not hear about it.
