Have an opportunity to relocate to Charlotte for work. Pros/cons on living there?? Married with kids, don’t know much about the city.

Cons: it’s in North Carolina, better than BR though I guess

Pros: clean, international airport with hub (basically nonstop domestic flights anywhere in the us), good public schools if you live in the right area (south), breweries, whitewater center, 2 hours to beaches/mountains

Cons: food/music scene kind of sucks for a city of its size, newer city so not as much city culture/identity, too many yankee transplants from Ohio and NY

I just moved here in Feb from La

It's amazing

2 hr from the mountains in Asheville
2.5hr hr from the beach in Wilmington
2.5 hr from Charleston

Plenty of outdoor hunting and fishing 30 min south to South Carolina.

I guess the one drawback would be that it's 20 yrs behind Atlanta so it's growing at a really fast rate.

People are super friendly, decent LSU alumni association, 45 breweries (and growing), schools are really good. Lake Norman just north is amazing and offers some tupe of outer city retirement.

My Pops (RIP) lived in Concord which is a suburb and they loved it. Ended up moving out to Lincolnton and bought a huge place and stayed there for 15yrs.

Pros: If you like Nascar......

Cons: Traffic congestion sucks

If you’re married with kids, it’s got enough “big city” things to do, without being too overwhelming with traffic like Houston or Atlanta.

Live reasonably close to where you work. If working uptown (what they call their downtown), don’t live any further south than Ballantyne. If working in Ballantyne, don’t live in Huntersville or Lake Norman area.

Kind of screwed up as far a 2A goes..

You need permission from the State to purchase handguns. The County Sherrif issues these purchase permits.

Private sales of handguns require NICS checks, but not long guns.

Long gun laws look to be the same as free states. They just have a hardon for pistols or something.

It’s a legitimate instance of a Jim Crow law still on the books.

It's happening in a lot of fast growing Southern states. The major metros will start swinging statewide elections.

I lived in Huntersville for about 5 years.

Great city. Zero personality like others have suggested.

Norman is a cool lake but very crowded.

Lake Badin is one of my favorite places on earth though.

I've been here for many decades except college and 4 years in the late 90's when I gypsied around.

Like most cities our size the murder count is uncomfortable. But like most, it happens in a select few zip codes. 95% off the murders happen there. Don't deal drugs or hire street hookers and you'll be fine.

Schools are good relative to the South but lag relative to the country. At least 3 good private schools in the SE part of town... With several smaller church related privates.

Traffic is ok. Brutal at times but can be worked with. If you live 9 miles from 'downtown' in the SE part of town and work there... You are swimming with everyone else... It can suck. Still growing and adjusting.

There is a LOT new here, from fans, allegiances, cuisine, openings, closing etc. Especially given the past year of COVID... Beer scene is good.

Golf is not bad. 3-4 clubs that are at least 60k to join. Few others less than 30. Some public on the outskirts.

Airport, not bad. Geography great.

More? I'll shoot you square...

Nice, clean, underrated city with a lot to do and a good economy. It’s one of my favorite places to visit. Beer scene would get a lot more credit if Asheville wasn’t nearby. COL is much better than Atlanta. Things to do for all ages. The state of NC in general has a ton to do. And NC is worlds better than Louisiana.

One could argue that it doesn’t have much of an identity/culture, which is mainly because it’s a much newer city that is exploding with growth and has an influx of transplants. Kind of similar to atlanta in that regard.

It’s about the size of Tampa or San Antonio so traffic is about on par with those two.

It has some of the element but what southern city doesn’t?
