BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Investigators say the driver of a party barge that collided with three children on False River later “fled the scene” and had to be tracked down.
All three children were injured. One of the victims, an 8-year-old, was airlifted to a hospital with a broken pelvis.
Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff Rene Thibodeaux says the party barge driver was eventually located about three hours later at his home near Lafayette.
Investigators have not yet released the man’s name but say he could be charged in the case.

The incident happened Sunday, Aug. 8 along False River in New Roads.
Thibodaux says the children, aged 8 to 14, were on a tube being pulled behind a boat when the tube was struck by the party barge around 3:45 that afternoon.
Two of the victims were transported to hospitals including an 8-year-old who suffered a broken pelvis.
Thibodeaux says the driver of the party barge admitted being there but told investigators that he “rendered help and then left.”

Charges are possible? Dude hit 3 kids and two had to be airlifted. He fled the scene and was found at his house in Lafayette 3 hrs later.. Why are charges "possible"?

Wait until you find out who the guy is:

Wildlife & Fisheries is investigating a boating accident that took place on False River in Pointe Coupee Parish Sunday, Aug. 8th around 4pm. Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff Rene Thibodeaux said deputies responded to a call for a boating accident on the river. He said witnesses on the pier told them two boats were traveling very close to each other when a party barge that was pulling children ended up turning directly behind another boat pulling three children on a tube. Officials say two of the three children were injured. One child went to Pointe Coupee General with minor injuries and a young boy had to be airlifted due to the severity of his injuries after he told officials he could not feel his arms or feet. Unfiltered with Kiran is told that child has a broken pelvis. Sources said the driver of the party barge that hit the children is Lafayette Parish Assistant District Attorney Chris Richard. Sources said Richard jumped in the water to help two children back on to boats but then asked a nearby jet ski driver to take him back to his own boat. Before authorities could arrive to the accident, Richard allegedly took his boat back, left the scene and drove back towards Lafayette. Officially, it remains under investigation whether Richard attempted to flee from the scene or if he had been drinking when the accident happened. Unfiltered with Kiran has calls into the Lafayette Parish District Attorney’s office as well as Wildlife & Fisheries for more information on the case.

Because he's a Lafayette Parish assistant DA, and this is Louisiana.

So what do we know about this guy, other than he likes to drink. That’s a given by him being from Lafayette and the fact that he fled the scene before authorities arrived. That was a decision of diminishing consequences.
Fleeing the scene of an accident is much less punishing than DWI with injuries.

No you won't, strokey

imagine my embarrassment if a date is set and someone gives chris a ride and I fail to show
yall could shut me up forever
or chris gets the shite beat out of him

The article quotes him as saying he “rendered help and then left.” If true, he may not actually be guilty of hit and run.

It’s also possible that he had been drinking and tried to haul arse out of there before the water cops showed up. But there’s no way to know that with the information in the article.
