that's why it said entry level jobs. Some people, like you, won't be able to figure out how to use AI. Kind of like how you don't know how to use Google today.

Elon Musk says AI won't just lead to universal basic income -- but universal high income. Tens of billions of humanoid robots could 10× the global economy. They won't just help. They’ll unlock abundance. Everyone gets what they want, if we get it right.

He previously said the Optimus robots are 10 years out re mass scale so I’m sure there will be some relatively short transition period of pain involved re unemployment before universal income is available.

Long term sounds like a lot more time to chase specks and reds

I'm to believe that the people who absolutely oppose any sort of societal safety net are going to be cool with everyone sitting around collecting a check for doing nothing?

Sheeeeeeeit.

If your job can be replaced by a computer you’re pink collar not white collar

Real men don’t know how to use a computer

Alaskan citizens get a stipend from the state just for living there already, b/c the state is wealthy due to the oil income.

Under today’s economy which is based on human labor, you’re right we want to discourage loafers.

But this is a change on the scale of the Industrial Revolution.

If armies of robots and AI computers replace like 70 % of all human jobs (not just the 10-20% the OP talks about, they aren’t taking the Optimus robots into account), what is the alternative?

The robots will also replace a majority of blue collar jobs.

You want to just let the greedy corporations just keep all the savings as profits and let billions of people starve in the streets?

Civil war / revolution would result.

A thousand a year isnt a life changing dividend for anyone.

150 years ago, the main employers were farms. Then tractors and other farm equipment came along and people had the same reaction.

Economies change, and jobs chance along with it. If AI is doing the productive work, you will see more service industries pop up. Plus, somebody has to work on the hardware to service AI.

I'm not convinced AI is going to be as impactful as this guys says though. There are going to be a finite number of chips and hardware available, and the defense industry (especially if this golden dome is actually a thing) is going to need a metric shite ton of computing power to operate.

Also, AI will be heavily utilized to expedite research, and it should be geared toward medical research. This will reduce the need to pour billions of dollars into these bloated universities to subsidize their activist manufacturing capability.

AI and Cancer Research

One industry that will be impacted is education. At some point, AI will be able to do adaptive learning where students can learn at their own pace, instead of the one size fits all approach. There will be less demand for educators, so less need for bloated school board payrolls. Also, this levels the playing field for all students. Kids in poor rural or urban areas can get the same education as kids in private schools using the same tools and methods.

You're showing an incredible lack of imagination here.

That's not at all what I want. I'm just perplexed by the faith some are showing in the future largesse of our corporate overlords. They don't give away money.

I think AI will be a problem in 10-15 years with regards to the workforce but 1-5 years? Nah.

It’s already a problem for junior level software engineers. People who spent 16 hours a day coding and can work their asses off are having trouble finding jobs. This was not the case 5 years ago.

However someone touched on this earlier. If you’re only taking people with experience and not taking junior level then you’ll run out of people with experience pretty quickly. But I know several marketing guys that secretly do 80-90% of their work with GPT and the main reason they’ll sustain their jobs for the foreseeable future is because their bosses are a lot of boomers who are stupid as hell when it comes to AI.

re Alaska

Yes b/c the oil income in that state is only sufficient to fund that amount.

Current global economy / GDP is just over $160 trillion, if robots and AI 10x it as Elon is predicting, then you have 1.4 quadrillion to spare.

There is currently 8.2 billion people, let’s say 10 billion by the time all this comes to pass to make the math easy.

I believe that comes out to $140,000 K each in universal stipend funding.

Elon has faith in humanity it seems. I think there will definitely need to be some arm twisting to make sure this comes to pass. We need to make sure we keep benevolent leaders like Trump in charge.

The global elites wanted to kill off most of the population instead of this so they and their descendants could all live like kings instead of sharing the future largesse with humanity.

There will always be evil in the world, we have a responsibility to fight it.

Custom made AI models for specific roles are already gutting IT fields.

Mostly on the software development/coding and maybe lower tier helpdesk side. The rest of us have to keep all that shite running.

So basically AI is going to replace India.

AI and even more so, India, is about to crush US O&G employment.

XOM has quietly cut almost 30% of it's US headcount over the past 4 years, all going to India.

All engineers. Let me know when XOM brings India here to man drilling rigs, frac units, pipelines, etc.

We have guys with PE degrees in the field right now that will never use their degree.

They already are. And they gotcha bc you need them. Glad I’m retiring early early within 5 years. AI is going to ruin many careers. Needs to be knocked down now.

Its our future. We will get a stipend and do gig work to fill in the gaps. I'm not a fan of it but thats where we are.

Humanity has hit a tremendous competency crisis right when AI is exploding, sounds like its a natural fit.

Alaska's PFD is once a year and only about a grand. The current governor ran on increasing it, and failed thank God.

I didnt vote for him as voting for freebies ensures you'll get burned in the future.

Universal high income for a few. Why would the elites need anyone else on the planet if they can be glorified by AI?

Do you think considering human history that if people in positions of extreme power could utilize a technology that has zero moral turpitude, they wouldn’t use it in a heartbeat? Launch 100k drones with precision targeting and kill the majority of humans? Then use robot janitors to clean up the mess? Then live as immortal transhumanists on a planetary playground as they invent terraforming tech and galactic travel capabilities?

I’d love to say I’m being ridiculous but it kind of seems like we’re heading down that path. We hate each other and the next few decades will see exponential growth in advanced technology. Bad juju.
