Take the time to get 5 estimates. When I did that in 2019 I got wildly differing pricing and eventually got a great price from a well rated company.

I used Baton Rouge AC for the longest time for “maintenance.” When my AC went out their replacement quote seemed high. I got a few quotes and ended up with Confederate. Half the price of the initial quote. My house is still cold.

Darrell Oby...he is on Facebook and he does quality work, and will be significantly cheap.

He has done me, my brother, and two next door neighbors. At least let him give you a quote.

I second Glaze. All the work they've done for me has been good.

FWIW, get at least one quote from an installer who does Daikin (which includes Amana and Goodman). Daikin is a global Japanese company whose US mfg is in Houston. They are the only R32 system on the US market right now. R32 and R454B are the two new refrigerants required to be installed now.

Everyone else uses R454B. What is R454B? It's ~70% R32 and 30% R1234yf. R454B is very hard to find and expensive nationally right now, could result in a $1k hit to your quote just by itself. It is also hard to mix proportionately when the systems need a charge in hot weather.

R32 is used in all mini splits and a large number of other applications, and is very common/low cost. Has been for some time. Oddly, every US company (Carrier, Trane, etc) that uses R454B here uses R32 in their systems in the rest of the world.

PS - R1234yf is what's in your new car's AC.

Find a guy that works for one of these companies and hire him on the side. Order your unit from hvacdirect.com and literally save thousands.
