What is the middle ground? It is just said that the government fostering this, but Africa officals are as corrupt as they come.

this dentist looks to be in a little bit of trouble.
Is he still in Africa or here, back in the states?

My point is if you really care just give the money if you don't care then don't give. The stipulation of killing being attached to it is disgusting. Therefore, they don't really care about the lions, they just want to kill them for thrill.
They might not care. They might just want to kill some shite. Doesn't change the fact that their money is helpful.

I done a quite a bit of hunting in my life. You don't kill what you don't eat.

Anyone who feels the need to 'trophy hunt' is a little-dicked asswipe needing to feel like the big man.

You want to show people what a big man you are? Tape a hunting knife to each hand and go in drag that lion out of there.

The middle ground you propose led to this fricking situation in the first place.

Yea, so let's ignore all the legal hunts that have done good and just focus on this one bad example. Great idea.

If there's not hunting, how do you manage the populations, Monty? We don't live in a world anymore where the pristine state of nature can just take care of itself. You have limited habitat and it's shrinking all the time. National parks don't bring in money. Hunters do. And not only that, overpopulation leads to disease, and, in the case of lions, it leads to dead Africans as well.

The idea that you can't have an overpopulation of an endangered species is ridiculous as well, by the way. If I put a hundred duck-billed platypusses in one lake, there would be an overpopulation in that lake. You would need sustainable hunting practices to get that population under control.

Poachers don't poach when people legally hunt? You've been a standard-bearer for imbecility in this thread.
People are more willing to stop the poachers when legal hunting is going on. They have incentive to protect the animals.

Yep. I'm all for deer, duck, quail etc but this type of shite I cannot support. It reminds me of those pathetic assholes who release big cats out of cages then immediately shoot them.

The guy tried destroying the GPS tracker and covering up the kill. He's definitely going to face legal action.

Legal Hunting at its finest:

quote:

“It is alleged that the hunter connived with the Antoinette land owner, Mr. Honest Trymore Ndlovu to kill the lion,” reads a joint statement from the parks service and the Safari Operators Association. “Ongoing investigations to date suggest that the killing of the lion was illegal since the land owner was not allocated a lion on his hunting quota for 2015. Therefore, all persons implicated in this case are due to appear in court facing poaching charges.”

Not only did they lure him out of the park, they lured him to land where he also couldn't be killed.

Did he do that, or did the guides? Serious question.

The guy is definitely an a-hole for shooting the lion but people need to stop acting like he knew that the lion was Cecil and killed him anyway. People that are sending him death threats are far more pathetic than he is.

ETA: If he was baiting the lion off a reservation to shoot it then yeah, he's an even bigger a-hole than before and should face jail time or pay a massive fine.
