No, it's not a matter of risk. It's a matter of demographics. Generally speaking, the people that smoke weed make less money than people who don't. Same with cigarettes. And before you roll out your story about how you know this ridiculously wealthy and successful physician or attorney that smokes weed every day, I'm talking big picture. Overall, daily pot users make less money than those that don't.

Artists high on list.

Computer guys low on list.

Figures.

Altered states provide inspiration for artists.

Try that shite at 3 am while debugging the "platform" that brings in the money and it must be tested by 530 am.

Marijuana is a shitty drug. It’s got alcohol beat but that’s not saying much.

Ya gotta mix them both with cocaine, rookie.

Being legal will have no effect on the requirements insurance companies, and regulatory agencies place on employers to drug test

If it's legal it would be discrimination. Just like its bs ppl who got it medically shouldn't have to even worry about it, but it's not protected. I was on oxycodone & Oxycontin while on active duty 3* a day. That's worse than weed. I'm sure the military will keep away from it, but that's fine. That's part of the UCMJ. Don't like it, don't join a volunteer military. I get that, but civilian side it's honestly not a big deal and I bet even with companies testing, employees do it more than reported.

The food service industry was made for drug users

Which is why you need to tip well. Otherwise they won’t have any money to buy drugs.

Food/service industry people are an important cog in the cash based economy of the underground market.

Don’t try to buy a gun if you’re prescribed marijuana.

Not true for me. Can't buy from FFL, but I can buy from non FFL (private seller). I can still have an Illinois FOID and CCL through the state as well. I have plenty of guns and I'm not a gun nut where I have to have more though.

Food service would be number 1 in any drug usage related category.

Yep. And for a few reasons. Not just the lack of drug tests.

Definitely a schedule 1. Great job Congress.

Why would it not be schedule 1? Rightly or not, it has no accepted medical use in the US, and that is what makes a drug schedule 1 instead of some other schedule.

There are plenty of really nasty drugs that are not schedule 1 because they do have an accepted medical use. Fentanyl, for example.

Nope.

Just because it is legal does not mean you have a right to smoke it while working for my company.

You think you can keep a CDL and drive an 18 wheeler all week and get high on the weekends?

You think you can perform surgery or anesthesia and get high on your off time?

Not a chance.

Just admit it. If you can smoke weed (even occasionally) then your job is for the most part simple and you would be easy to replace. But don’t make that assumption for those of us who have jobs with life altering decisions on a daily basis.

Sure, if I had gone to medical school. Since, you know, you're not high for weeks after.

Sure. Can you keep a CDL and drink on the weekends? Are all surgeons and anesthesiologists teetotalers or do some of them drink on their off time?

I'd choose a surgeon who smoked a few bowls over the weekend over one who was hungover or spent the weekend on a bender 10 out of 10 times.

Difference is you can’t “drug screen” for alcohol 5 days after you use it.

Trust me. Insurance companies and lawyers will fight to allow immediate drug screens for MJ at the first bad outcome in a high risk job. They already do it now in occupational medicine clinics when a guy gets hurt on his job - the company that employs him hopes he has a positive drug screen so they can fire him or limit his “benefits”.

I don't disagree. We need a more accurate testing before most employers will be comfortable with it.

11% usage in engineering? What company that employs engineers doesn’t do drug testing?

A lot of testing is fairly easy to beat. Especially when the collection isn't monitored.
