U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, released on Thursday, presents new findings from the government’s weed surveillance, showing relative rates of marijuana use among various professions and demographic groups

quote:

The survey showed that marijuana use is more prevalent among people aged 18 to 25 (29.6 percent) than people 26 to 34 years old (18.6 percent) and that it was higher among men (17.2 percent) than women (11.3 percent). Perhaps most interestingly, though, the survey revealed which professions are most and least likely to attract smokers.

My profession, education, is near the bottom and I can say that I don't know any regular smokers. Where are you on the list?

People who smoke pot work in jobs where they are not frequently, if ever, drug tested. Shocking!

Honestly surprised 'computer and mathematical' isn't higher. Most guys I know in IT or development are total stoners.

I was drug tested for over 10 yrs in the military (no biggie, I knew the rules and followed them). Full time student now, so yeah, I like a little pot from time to time. Finances and family are taken care of. No big deal.

It's going to be legal soon anyways and won't be tested as much anymore.

So professions that have the least amount of drug testing have the highest drug use rates?

I hope CDC spent gobs of taxpayer revenue to reveal this glorious insight.

Bingo. It’s more of a matter of risk being worth it. When rec weed become legal in all of US, and testing only shows current inebriation, these numbers will jump in all employment.

I was sure painters were going to be number 1 (painters as in people who paint your house. Not artist painters, but they would be up there as well).

Where is public accounting on that list? I work for a large CPA firm and I would say 30% smoke.

Being legal will have no effect on the requirements insurance companies, and regulatory agencies place on employers to drug test.

Marijuana is a shitty drug. It’s got alcohol beat but that’s not saying much.

Yeah it could actually have the reverse effect and drug testing could become much more common in the workplace.

Food service would be number 1 in any drug usage related category.
