Causeway Tolls to Increase Saturday (May 6) Morning for Cash Customers

Ladies and Gentlemen:
On Saturday May 6, tolls for safety improvements on the Causeway will officially increase at 4 am. The round-trip cost for toll-tag holders will be $3 and cash customers will pay $5.00 round-trip. These additional funds will go directly to critical safety improvements on our bridge including safety bays and improved railings.
If you currently pay cash, please consider switching to a toll tag. A tag will save you time and money and there is no expiration date on funds in your toll tag account. If you are interested in a tag, please give us a call, send an email, or stop in at either tag office (contact information/locations at bottom).
Safety for our commuters is the GNOEC’s top priority. Higher railings and segmented shoulders will save lives. As a new 2017 report from the American Society of Civil Engineers just reported, “A majority of the functionally obsolete bridges are due to inadequate shoulders; furthermore, on some of the longer bridges, a shoulder could mean the difference of avoiding an accident. For example, the Causeway Bridge … is 23.9 miles with no shoulder and has roughly 2,000 vehicle breakdowns a year, or 5.5 per day, with nowhere to pull over.”
Thank you for your continued vigilance on our bridge and your patience as we move forward in our goal to bring the Causeway to 21st safety standards.
Sincerely,
Carlton

Anyone know how much it costs to purchase a toll tag?

The charge for Southbound 18 wheelers is going up 20 percent, I'm told.
Still free northbound for everybody, even glass trucks and motorcycles.

In other words, "we are getting rid of cash option soon."
Better for traffic and keeping up with times/technology. Good for Nola. I like it.

quote:I agree, as long as the toll tag price isn't crazy. If it's just a matter of applying for one and putting money on it, then NBD.

eta: but I don't think they could ever fully get rid of the cash option due to out-of-towners.

That north shore tax
They should collect the tolls going north instead to keep that south shore trash away.

Should only be a charge for leaving NOLA

Guess I need to get up early and hit the booth at 3:59 so I don't get screwed.

I'm guessing you've never traveled to TX? There are no Toll booths in TX. Everything is pay by mail if you don't have a toll tag. Camera snaps a picture of your plate and you get a bill in the mail a few weeks later. You can then pay online.

I think it was $45 when I got mine about a year ago. $15 is for the tag itself, and the rest was for tolls. You have an online account where you go in and add money.
