My husband said that a couple years ago too. Now my daughters kitten has turned into the crown prince of the house. He fetches and comes when we call him. Snuggles and loves laying by the fire. Just like our dogs did. But I am 100 percent sure he’d stalk and murder us if he weighed about 20 lbs more and definitely would eat our faces if we were deceased.

Growing up we never relaly had cats and were exclusively a dog family. And make no mistake, dogs a fricking awesome and have the title "man's best friend" for a reason. There is practically no devotion and companionship that can top that of a loyal canine. BUT, cats are an absolute metric frickton easier to manage and care for on the daily. As I've gotten older and our family has grown that means more and more to me.

Depends on what you want in a pet? A roommate or a friend. Cats are better roommates. Dogs are better friends.

Got both cats and a dog.
2 cats and an older lab.
The big 30 lb baby who runs to his cat momma and gets everything he wants is the boss.
Sleep good luck.
He behind the my other cat and dog getting me up.
When I want to sleep in it starts with the little cat walking over us.
If we don't get up then our lap plops on us.
If not then here comes our big 30lb baby, pushing the sheets off, and looking in your face meoooow.
All pets are work if you want them to have a happy life.

There are areas where cats are superior
There are areas where dogs are superior
There is no question cats are infinitely easier to care for/maintain and leave on their own for long weekends.
Dogs are typically better at providing security and uncompromising loyalty. I will say I have had (and currently have) cats that are just as loyal and "loving," but admit that on average it is a more common trait for dogs.
Cats can and will run away, just like dogs will. The dog is more likely to return when called. The cat will likely show back up when it's damned good and ready.
I prefer cats, but I can understand why other prefer dogs.

With all the pit bull crosses being dumped at no-kill animal shelters, we are going to have to take into account that segment of dogdom when praising all dogs.
