Most small dogs are little yappy pains in the arse.
Cats can be cool though. I've got a big fluffy Maine Coon hanging out with me here, and he's a sweet kitty.

My dogs (well, kinda) are small and yappy and their awesome. Everyone loves them and they ain't backing down. One of them got voted cutest dog in the county too (long story). The only thing is one of them does act more like a cat 75% of the time.

I love me a big cuddly dog, but cats are way more convenient. You give them food/water twice a day, clean the litter box every day or two, and that's it. The frickers take care of themselves and don't act like the world is ending and eat your pillows when you leave for two hours. No waiting in the hot sun or cold rain while a dog sniffs around the yard for ten minutes. Cats fully "train" themselves by like six weeks old.
That being said, only get an orange tabby. They're usually male, chill, and cuddly as frick. My girlfriend has one right now and when I sit down on the couch he's in my lap within seconds kneading my man boobs.
