Friend of mine was arrested for possession of cocaine. Cops raided his apartment, nailed him for the coke and another friend of mine for weed and paraphernalia. My friend was facing prison time and had to deal with court dates for ~6 months. This guy was a grad student instructor, a PhD candidate, and a genuinely good dude who just liked to cut loose. After half a year of struggling with the mountain of bullshite he took his life a short time ago, the last person who talked to him told me he was just devastated about his situation and was convinced he was going to prison.

Just wanted to share another success tale about the valiant War on Drugs.

Tell your friend Chef it's going to be okay.

ETA: shite. I misread it. I didn't know he committed suicide. I'm sorry.

We all make bad life choices that we must pay for and he was no exception. Blaming "the war on drugs" is a bit misguided on your part.

Quite a bit, he was ordering in bulk from a silk-road type site, probably what got him caught. He wasn't dealing though.

Prayers to you, him, his family, etc.. Sorry for your loss.

Why would the popo raid his apt for simple possession? He piss someone off? Either way it sucks.

Very sorry your friend is gone, but the blame shifting here seems off to me.

Sounds like he followed up a bad but recoverable decision with an irreversible one.

well a draconian system of punishment, especially for a first offense without any victims, and the ensuing societal scarlet letter of a felony, is kind of a disproportionate price to pay (again, for possessing a natural substance that caused no direct injury to others)
