the only real negative I see to this is that the uber driver's bullet did not land in the chest of the jacker...

This. Thugs from the East get a cheap ride to the Quarter to sell drugs and rob gullible tourists. It'll never go away though because getting rid of that stop would be "racist".

...am I missing the relevance of the victim being an Uber driver here?

Only caught one of the carjackers the rest fled to the East where they will integrate back into the cesspool known as NOE. The area with no redeeming qualities.

This.

Edit:

I was about 100 meters to the left of the shooting when it went down. Old baw put at least 8-10 down range at close range.

Anyone know if Uber has a policy against carrying firearms while driving for them? I love the fact the driver was armed but it seems like Uber would have a policy against it for liability issues.

I remember reading that RTA is looking at spots for a bus terminal. That should alleviate most of the problems

Just that he was professionally driving the car with an unrelated paying passenger for sake of accuracy in telling the story. It doesn't drastically change it but the reason he was there and picking up a passenger rounds out the story more fully

You're using you're POV on your own time technically.

All an Uber driver does is put a a sticker with their company logo on it on their windshield.

They need to put a terminal at Elk Place & Canal and put a police substation in it.

I believe they are considered contract agents working for Uber. If a driver were to use his firearm in a situation that did not warrant deadly force, I can see a victims lawyer going after the driver and Uber as well.

Like I said, thank God the driver was armed

I'm glad he was too.

Those tPOS out there need to know we'll shoot back or shoot first if it's legal to do so.

Being that they are based in California my initial guess would be that they do not condone weapons in the vehicles.

edt. Per Ubers website
quote:

We seek to ensure that everyone using the Uber digital platform—both driver-partners and riders—feels safe and comfortable using the service. During a ride arranged through the Uber platform, Uber and its affiliates therefore prohibit possessing firearms of any kind in a vehicle. Any rider or driver found to have violated this prohibition may lose access to the Uber platform.
