Second person to start a thread about their car being recently stolen, and second person who left their keys in said vehicle.

Here is the moral of the story......

DON'T LEAVE YOUR frickING KEYS IN YOUR DAMN CAR.

Tell them to get fricked, get a rental and call the insurance company and let them deal with them.

You can check your Insurance Coverage to see if they might be responsible for recovery charges following theft.

They usually are, I’d assume you’re going to make a claim on the vehicle anyway, might as well throw the recovery cost on the heap.

Or, if you have an Auto Club membership (AAA, etc.) perhaps that might cover recovery?

You're insurance company is going to go all-in with a giant, studded dildo on you.

Get ready for a big rate increase.

It ain't fun.

have a reed switch in my work van. If I don't have a magnet in my cupholder the engine won't start.
When I get bored I come up with crap to modify the work van.
It's the door switch four a ge washer, I have the power to the starter relay running through it.
I can leave the keys in the ignition and all.

From an engineering standpoint, that's cool as shite.

Is it theft if you leave the keys in it or just invitation to borrow?

Might as well rig up an ejection seat while you’re at it.

Will your insurance even payout considering you enabled this?

How do you get in your house without keys?

Do you at least pull car key from ignition and drop in cup holder?

Though I have a couple of hidden electrical disconnects in my old chevy, I am resigned to the fact that if a thieve(s) really want your car, they will get it. Just don't make it any easier for them.
