Geico has gone up $50/month over the past year and i have no new claims or accidents or tickets. They said it's just general increase for Louisiana, and it's pissing me off.

Any recommendations for reasonable companies?

We have an independent agent and switch almost yearly because if you stay it goes up.

Same thing happened to my premium with Geico.
Amounted to about a 20% increase.

It's a general increase. They've all gone up.

I left all-state b/c they were increasing my rates over $100/yr no claims. Switched to Geico and it was over @$200 cheaper per 6 months.

I think the prevalance of 70k suv's and trucks have caused insurance to increase more then average.

I'm no socialist but I wouldn't mind if the owners of those expensive rigs had to pay a "luxury" insurance tax or the like.

The single mom working at the grocery store driving a honda civic with only liability insurance shouldn't shouldn't share in the burden of people thinking they need a car which takes 7 years to pay for.

Same for me with Geico but whenever I shop around, no one beats their rates.

Yes, the severity and expense of damage has steadily increased the past few years...improving economy, and lower gas prices have led to more traffic and bigger/pricier vehicles on the road. You have younger drivers who can afford to drive, distracted driving, and repairing all this new technology all contribute as well. Insurance rates are set at, up to, a statewide level and are subject to increases. Everything costs more now with inflation and time in general. Insurance rates are no exception, over time market forces dictate the rates. Anyone who thinks their rates will just sit and not increase over time is just not being realistic.

I swap geico and progressive every 2 years or so, they seem to constantly flip-flop as the cheapest insurer.

People might want to compare rates if they can possibly be covered in different parishes... I'm pretty sure my insurance went up when I moved from Jefferson to St. Bernard

One other point, in insurance it is like many other products, cheap does not necessarily equal value.....one should always look for value. A competent agent can provide a lot of value in the mix as well.

Yes, insurance carriers use different ratings for communities, counties, regions, and up to a statewide level. Issues like level on uninsured motorists, accident density, claim payout ratio, all these can play factors in rating even from one community to the next.

The price of SUVs is not the reason Louisiana is the second most expensive state for auto insurance. Most insurance carriers operate with an underwriting loss in LA.

LA rates are high due to the number uninsured and the number of alcohol related accidents and dui's

LA is ranked #20 for state with the most uninsured motorists per capita. Statistics on drunk driving vary, but I only found LA listed in the top 10 in one survey.

Same here. Had been with Liberty Mutual for 15+ years and they were hitting me for $205/month for full coverage on a 10-year old truck.

Agent switched me to Met Life. I’ll save about $500/year. Still too much, but better.

Car insurance will go up every year from here on out. Every minor accident is a lawsuit. Thank your boy Morris and every other 1 800 lawyer.
