OP once again made things too obvious "looking for a weekend car, porsche or ferrari guys?" LOL
If you TRULY were in the market for a "weekend car" you wouldn't be shopping 17 year old cars under $12K. Not to mention its pretty rare -to see someone cross shopping a Porsche with a Vette, of ANY vintage.

Will the boxter be as collectible as the Corvette in 5-10 years?
Neither of those cars will see much of a collectors bump in the near future.
However, where the Boxster has a decent shot of holding or increasing in value is as a race car. The Spec Boxster series is really beginning to heat up and you will likely see their prices rise especially for low mileage three pedal cars. An example is when the 944 spec series stated to get big the prices of the cars really started rising.
I would not buy either as any sort of investment strategy!

Vette rides very rough. If you care about comfort while driving go with the Porsche.
Very rough?
Compared to a Mercedes S-Class, sure.
To other sports cars, not even close.

I'd go with the vette. But I'd try and look for a C5 Z06.

The real doctors are going to laugh at either choice, but the other podiatrists will think the Porsche is cooler.

The other issue is both are about 450 miles away. Probably would not be able (or willing) to travel to drive both
Then why are you even considering them?

I can't speak for the Boxster but the Corvette will have little value as a collector or any kind of investment. They made 33,000 of them, many still on the road. It wasn't a very well kept secret that the 2001 model would include the Z06 option for which many prospective buyers were willing to wait for. And to those that waited, many thought the wait was worth it.

because it takes an act of God to find a car with a manual transmission, decent miles, and decent price anywhere around here

Are you in Louisiana?

Of I'm definitely not buying without going to see it and drive it. I just meant it's going to be an either/or decision. Not going to see both

1. 2000 c5 corvette with 6 speed manual. 67,000 miles. $13,900. Clean carfax.
2. 2000 Porsche Boxster S. 6 speed manual. 50,000 miles. $11,500. Clean carfax.
Sheesh!

Boxster is a great chick car, Vettes are for pompous a$$, old men.

Because I don't want to spend the money. I just want something with a manual to have some fun on the weekends
