I thought his earlier efforts were OK. This latest video was a bit over the top, even for me. It was bordering on unprofessional IMO and seemed more like something from a reality TV show than a PSA by LE. Again, I'm sure Higgins is a decent man and good officer. But if the boss tells you to reign it in, you reign it in. If not, this is the result.
As for all the bluster about superior tactics,
Should have just done his job and left all the theatrics behind.

I suppose I missed the video when he was trying to catch a person suspected of disobeying his boss.

Or maybe you just aren't using the correct word.

First of all, the video was done at the request of the state police

First of all the state police would rather utilize resources to shoot videos than actually police the Parish? How fricking stupid does this sound?

quote:

Secondly, he was the public information officer for the ST. Landry Sheriff's Department. It was his job to do these videos.

"Effective (today) Sgt. Clay Higgens will be our public information officer and Crime Stoppers person," Guidroz said. "Capt. Vizena has received a lateral transfer and will be now be in charge of our TRIAD program, our Kops-n-Kids coordinator and over all our school programs."

Show me where this is standard practice for the police to make videos about the criminals they intend to catch. This is the opposite of being covert like most officers try to do when taking down a big criminal gang.

I read another article that stated:
quote:

"In the video, Higgins, a captain in the sheriff's office, referred to the suspects as "animals," "thugs" and "heathens," words that have sparked debate and a response from the American Civil Liberties Union.

The union's response included a statement that said it’s “inappropriate and incorrect” for Higgins to apply a religious term to people when he has no specific information about their religious beliefs."

So the fact that they're thugs and animals is of no concern to the ACLU but God forbid we call them heathens!

What a fricked up society we live in today.

Or maybe you're a fricking moron. The definition of hypocrite has nothing to do with whether or not you obey your boss.

If you literally make a career out of imprisoning people for not obeying the orders of the sheriff and then up and quit your job because you also don't want to obey the orders of that very same sheriff, then yes, you are a hypocrite.

When you are the government, you don't refer to any US Citizen as any of those things. Gang-bangers or not, they are fricking US Citizens and the goddamn Constitution fricking matters. They have arrest warrants, meaning a judge determined that there was probable cause to BELIEVE they had committed a crime. They have not been convicted (of these crimes) and they have the presumption of innocence until a judge/jury decides otherwise AFTER a fair and impartial trial.

For fricks sake, people.

You think the hoodrats are deliberately disobeying the orders of one man? How can you make that parallel when comparing gangmembers and law enforcement? The hoodrats are pieces of shite that are a threat to society. Higgins is a threat to the hoodrats. If anything, he is/was doing you a favor.

Another thing. If they neighborhoods/culture/family members of these thugs would do everyone a favor and turn these thugs in, Higgins wouldnt have to make videos like this now would he? Is it not time for people to begin policing themselves and turn pieces of shite like this in on their own? Is it not time to want to live a better life? No, in the eyes of this culture it's not. It's perfectly OK to just accept it and pretend like it doesnt happen.

I'm not even sure if you're being serious here. Wake up call......Some, not all, but some cops are the worst criminals out there.

No shite? I think alot of cops are pieces of shite and I dont really trust any of them. But what does that have to do with your idiotic retort about Higgins being a hypocrite because he was defying his bosses wishes? You seriously trying to say that that lumps him into the same category as the thugs because they both defy authority?

Either you respect authority or you don't. There is no middle ground. He wants people to obedient to the law, but refuses to obey his boss. That is hypocrisy at its finest. Who is to say this cop doesn't go on a even bigger ego trip and starts breaking the law because his lack of respect for authority. He has hood rat tendencies.

Nah, the thugs willfully admit that they defy authority. They also don't make a career out of imprisoning people for defying authority. I'm sorry you can't grasp the concept that Mr. Higgins is indeed a hypocrite.

I can't believe he actually resigned because the sheriff asked him to take it down in a notch in his little videos. And his speech was so self-righteous. You're supposed to be a professional, man, not a viral video star.

I can only guess he must be getting a big cut of the coin from selling those tshirts, because this is a silly thing to resign over.

That guy doesn't like publicity. This was the one he replaced with Higgins.
quote:

He said Vizena does not appear to have done anything wrong but the media attention surrounding a Saturday incident in Port Barre has caused embarrassment to his department, making it necessary to appoint a new spokesperson.

So, you think a thug not obeying the law is analogous to an employee not agreeing with his employer and resigning?
